Groom & Lavers are very proud supporters of the “Bloom House Flip Project”, a charitable initiative run by Toowoomba locals Jason and Leanne Burnett.

The project aims to raise funds through the renovation and sale of a Toowoomba house, with all proceeds being donated to the not-for-profit charity Bloom Asia, an organisation which supports young women who have suffered serious human rights violations.

Mr Daniel Starr was dismissed from his employment with the Department of Human Services as a frontline Centrelink officer. He had been working for Centrelink for 21 years.

Mr Starr was dismissed for alleged “serious misconduct”, arising on a number of comments which he made on two websites over a period of some years.

The Fair Work Commission Ordered Mr Starr’s reinstatement.

The Fair Work Commission has recently decided that an investigation report brought into existence for an employer attracted “legal professional privilege” and, as a result, was not required to be disclosed to an employee even though the decision to terminate the employee’s employment was, in part, based on findings in the report.

Steve Marsh operated an organically certified farm. The farm lost its certification after it was contaminated with genetically modified canola seeds which blew onto it from a neighbouring property.

Mr Marsh's legal battle against his neighbour, Michael Baxter, has now finally come to an end after the High Court of Australia refused his application for leave to appeal against a decision of the Western Australian Supreme Court.

As if things could not get any worse for the embattled supermarket giant, it has been reported that, on 5 February 2016, the Federal Court Ordered that Woolworths pay penalties of $3.057 million for breaching the Australian Consumer Law.

The breaches committed by Woolworths reportedly related to safety issues with “house brand” products sold in its supermarkets, Big W, and Masters stores. In many instances the breaches resulted in serious injuries to consumers and, despite knowing of the injuries, Woolworths failed to remove the products and recall them.
