Henry and I will be broadcasting this evening at 1800GMT with a discussion about recent avalanches in the French Alps and the role of snowpits in avalanche evaluation.

We have posted a picture of a slide triggered by Henry on Friday. It had a 25 m crown, 30 cm crown at deepest (upper left hand corner), ESE facing slope, 2400 m in Val. It slid on the on the weak week layer of facets/depth hoar at a convexity (20* above - 35* at crown). (Henry got whooompfimg on flats below). Henry will tell us about this
We saw this picture on a facebook post from Whitelines Magazine.  As well as reminding us all there is weak layer that formed at the beginning of the season, it shows a snowpack being tested and illustrates the character of the weak layer at the bottom of the snowpack.

Henry will join us to tell us how he tests the snowpack, where he gets his information and when he would do a snowpack test.  He will discuss the different types of snowpack tests.

henry will also give us an update on current conditions.  We are expecting a lot of snow on Saturday night and S|unday night.  This will change the nature of the risks out there.

You can watch the broadcast on this page on this post.  You do not have to login to Google to watch.  But if you want to ask a question you must login to Google+ with your Google Account details

To ask a question just click on the Q&A button that will appeart at bthe top of the broadcast video and the video will open in another window with a Q&A panel.  You can type your questions and we will answer as best we can

Will be online with Henry discussing avalanche risk on tracked out slopes at 1800 today Sunday.  Do join us if you ride off-piste.  Especially if you only go a little bit off piste and just off the side of the piste.  This could be a wake up call.

This is a different risk than the one encountered by Schumacher
Henry will be online with an update on conditions

We will be discussing the slide in the photo which attracted a lot of attention on our facebook page and elsewhere.  So the subject is about when you can expect a tracked out slope to release and why?

See facebook discussion here https://www.facebook.com/henry.schniewind

To watch this call, you just need to come to our Google+ page and the live stream will be live on the page.  You will be able to ask questions during the call.

You can watch the stream on this page as well, but you will not be able to ask questions from here.

The event will be recorded and you can watch the video on this page afterwards

If anyone has a ride going from Bourg St Maurice to Val d'Isere on Saturday 18th Jan (tomorrow) around 1850 to 1930 that would be brilliant. I am arriving on the Eurostar in Bourg St Maurice at 1849. Please let me know?

The French Bus company Cars Martin does not allow bookings for the bus less than 7 days in advance. What kind of logic there is in that I have no idea?

So I am in their hands depending on availability unless I can find a shared ride.
