I have found many mistakes in original sources lately and am curious if others have experienced the same thing. The latest find was yesterday when I found a birth record for a great uncle on Ancestry.  The person who recorded the births for the town added no given names to the children born. They are all listed with their surnames only. The record has the birth date and the parents names for each child except in my great uncle's case the names of the parents are incorrect. The names given are Daniel and Sarah when his parents first names were Dan and Emma. I can understand the Daniel but Sarah? The town they lived in was tiny that the 1900 census is only 3 images.

I recently took photos of records from a church record and one of the above named sisters has an aunt and uncle listed as her parents in that record.  Other church records give the correct parents for both her and her brother mentioned above. I knew these people quite well.  The great aunt lived over the road from me when I was growing up.

I had problems finding the death record for my gr gr grandmother, Mary Ann Simpson Powell.  She was grandmother to the above to people.  When I finally found her record her given name is listed as Sarah. The informant was a son-in-law who apparently didn't know her name. This is the only place I have found her name as Sarah.

The last example is the death date for a great aunt. Her death certificate was not filed until nine months after her death. Family records, church records, her obit and headstone are all correct.

Can't find anything as far as the nicknames go.  I did find Sarah was a nickname for Susan.  It is so obvious the lady who recorded the births didn't talk to the parents. If she had, at least some of the children would have given names listed. I'm thinking it might be that the recorder thought the mother's name was Sarah. This was back in the day when all women were Mrs. John Doe or just Mrs. Doe.
The funniest one is the son-in-law who didn't know his mother-in-laws given name.

I just discovered a problem with my Legacy 8 syncing with Family Tree. I just synced a recently deceased aunt and noticed a strange source that shows in my Legacy FamilySearch file.  It is a Harrington Family history book. So I checked to see if I had accidentally added this source to her but it does not show up in her sources when I look at her individual record in Legacy. I looked at her sister and see there is a source listed for her in Legacy FamilyTree with a Massachusetts Vital Record source that is not a source for her.  Again that source does not show up when I look at her individual record.  Would others who are linked to FamilySearch please check there files and let me know if this is happening to you or if it is just lucky me that is having this happen.  I am putting this under Discussion because I know how to do it.  Just want feedback. Thanks!

Have been in touch with Legacy support. Heard back today that they have recreated by problem and have now fixed the bug. It will be released with the next update. Not sure when that will be.

Memorial Day!  Some of the places I visited on Memorial Day. The new memorial that was dedicated last Saturday was very busy so I was not able to get really good photos.  Maybe in the future.

Thanks for sharing the photos +Marla Larson.  And here is a question for everyone in our LVUG Community  to tie our discussion and photos in  from Memorial Day. How to you input war memorials, tombstones, grave markers, etc., into your Legacy database? I don't think there is any right or wrong or one way to do this. What do you do, do you like the way your input method works on reports (do you even use reports)? Do you use the burial notes, photos tabs OR do you have a master event (one or more) for these "markers" OR do you use a combination of things?

This is what I have selected. I have also unchecked the Include half-siblings in the list but it made no difference.

Here is my screen capture.  Sorry, I haven't added a lot of photos to my database.  I have been working on a photo project to share with family members and that is taking a good deal of my time.  The green arrows mean I and FamilySearch Family Tree are in sync.  The red arrows on Mary Louisa Heath mean that my record and FamilySearch Family Tree have both made changes since the last time I synced the records. I love the way all the children in large families can show on the screen.  The exception to that being my dad's family.  There were 13 children in his parents family and only the first 12 will show.

Here are 3 screen shots of customized shots of my Legacy file with 2 different things I have customized and something I thought of myself to help keep my brain straight. I am not sure how they will appear on the post so if needed will comment more.

How Do I Do That?  -

Okay here is a dumb basic question.  I have source #1 that is a church record.  I want to keep that source because I have several more people I need to add this source to.  Source #2 is an obit for an aunt who just passed away and I am through with this source and want to replace it with an obituary for my 2nd great grandfather.  At the bottom of the source is a button that says clear all.  Does it clear only source #2 or will it clear sources #1 and #2? Thanks!

The 7.5 setting in "Customize" then "Sources" has an option to allow "only allow one source on the Source clipboard." That means no matter how many sources you have loaded into the clipboard, only the "active" one gets used.

You can "save" up to 10 sources in the clipboard using the "Save Citations to Disk" option. Then when you "open source clipboard" you can select which citation you want to use at that time with the "load Citations from Disk" button.

If you are using a specific source like your church records, just click on the "Add Clipboard Source to Current Event" after you have loaded it into the clipboard, then when you want to use the obit source click on the "open source clipboard" button and select that source. Follow the same procedure to revert back to the church record.

It sounds complicated but isn't once you've done it a few times. It's handy to be able to "store" frequently used sources and to change/alternate them as needed.

How Do I Do That?  -

Back in 1997 I inherited my aunts genealogy that includes xeroxed copies of marriage records, birth certificates, etc. of immediate family members and proofs for ancestors. At the time I inherited, I was using an unknown version of PAF that did not have a place for sources.  All sources, such as they were, were included in notes. I was pretty green at the time so I did what I did and then moved on to research ancestors and get a little smarter about sourcing and eventually find mine way to Legacy and got even smarter.  Now I feel a need to make digital images of these records and add them correctly to my Legacy database.  I am just trying to decide how I want to source these documents copies.  I would like to include the original location of the records such as the Utah State Vital Records for births and deaths but also want to give credit where credit is due to my aunts and mother who originally gathered this info.  Would appreciate any suggestions as to how you would source such records.

Thank you all for your imput.  Have decided that this is a case where I will add comments to the sources to give credit where credit is due.  So glad that copy machines have come such along ways since the mentioned copies were made many moons ago.

It certainly looks like there is room for an additional child to be added to each row.  Why even though I have things set as best fit is it only showing 4 children per row?

I am away from home and only on my laptop, and now I only have 5 children in a column.  At home I am on my laptop, but I have a large monitor!  That gave me 6 children to a column!  I always have my Tree open, no matter what I am doing on my laptop. (I also have a large external drive, with lots of photos and files!)

I have been busy adding obits to my Legacy 8.  Discovered last night that when I backup my multimedia the files I added the obits to are not being backed up.  Can't figure out what I am doing wrong.  Would greatly appreciate some suggestions.

For us Legacy users who have our Legacy files linked to FamilySearch Family Tree, there is an update. It fixes the issue of the strange spouses that were showing up and lets us merge individuals through Legacy and add discussions. They mention they are still working on sources and once that is done they will have full FamilySearch Tree Share+ Certification. Happy day!!!!!

For some reason when using this feature, extra spouses showed up. I have enough strange relatives, gotta love em' though, without having Legacy give me more.

Introduction
I love family history research and history in general. You can imagine my joy when I can learn about both all at once.  I also enjoy reading, photography and most of all my family.

It was inevitable that I marry someone whose dad owned a sawmill because since our marriage, I have found many of my ancestors had sawmills too.

I can be found at my local family history center once a week where I love helping others with there genealogy.  I was surprised to find that I also enjoy being a den leader even though my own sons are long past that stage.

Some of my genealogy brick walls:
1. Is Mary Ann Clapp, the wife of Lyman Simpson,  the same Mary Ann Clapp who is the daughter of Adolphus Clapp and Hannah Pomeroy?,

2. Where  in the world is Elizabeth Clark's parents. Thomas Clark and Anne or Anna Buck?

3. Is William E. Higby's mother Clarissa Sprague and not Martha Keith? I have found a marriage of Ezra Higby and Clarissa Sprague and Ezra's wife in 1850 was named Clarissa.
