It's a little late in coming, but for those of you who haven't voted yet, I'd like to ask you to do something a little strange. DON'T vote for Obama/Romney.

Or rather, unless they really, truly represent your views don't vote for them.  In many political discussions, both with people with similar political views, and those with very different views from me, I've noticed a very common and disturbing theme. Things like “I support Romney/Obama because Obama/Romney…,” where the choice of who to vote for is defined more by what a person dislikes about the opposing candidate than agrees with theirs.  This is the curse of the two party system, we constantly find ourselves choosing between the lesser of two evils.  I think it’s sad that’s it’s become commonly accepted in this country that our politicians don’t represent us.  Especially since we CAN change that.

Our ‘winner take all’ voting system does tend to encourage a two-party system, but does not demand it.   In order to be given Majority Party status, and be given the same access to federal funding and ballots as the Republican/Democrats, and independent party needs only gain 5% of the vote.  5% in this election and we can see a 3rd and even 4th party  as real choices for our next election.

So please, especially if you live in a Red/Blue state, take your time to look at ALL the candidates view.  http://www.isidewith.com is a great starting point for this. Find a candidate who TRULY represents you and, whether it’s a Green Party candidate like Jill Stein, or a Libertarian like Gary Johnson, give them your vote.  Let’s end this two party system and give us a real choice.
