My friend asked me to share a love story and this is what I wrote. Have you ever had one of those moments, the most perfect kind of moment, that you knew wouldn't last?

Editor's Note: This is the first post in a series of 14 love stories written by guest bloggers. By Alisha Sommer. You see, this is why I always come when he calls: there are always these little glimpses of possibility, of a real relationship. Like maybe, one day, he will decide that we can be ...

New poetry up on the blog and if you haven't heard about our first contest, check out the details on our site!
Hush When there is nothing left to say, the air is empty as scarecrow hands and costume pearls. Car keys rest on the kitchen table. Grasshoppers rage in the crabgrass and fireflies bump into the screen. The chairs encircling me are silhouettes of the shoulders I once massaged and rode upon. My chairs have emptied for good. So what is left to do? On the busy road outside, bikes rev and skid into clouds of gnats lingering in semiru...

"How do you make space for play?" she asked. I don't. I am not good at it - at play. (I've written about it before.) But I'm seeing it in a new light.  Last Saturday, play looked like asking for space to take the express train into the city, alone. It looked like rising to the top of the escalator and walking out of the station and not taking a taxi, and Instead, getting lost, walking an extra mile to get to where I was suppo...

My latest on Secret Rebel Club.
My friend Isabel writes these amazing lists. They are not simply lists though. She has somehow transformed something very mundane and ordinary into moments of poignant truth and understanding. This...

"I don’t know if I’m allowed to claim to remember things from the womb. I suppose it’s a matter of whether I can claim to remember things I couldn’t possibly remember. I will plow forward nonetheless: My pregnant mother had heard about the riots near the city square. She and her friends gathered in their small Port-au-Prince apartment. They were all medical students. My mother didn’t believe it could be happening. There is something about a coup d’etat that always seems implausible, like the laws of physics couldn’t possibly allow for it. Even when they have happened before, when they are happening right before you, even when they will continue to happen, etc., etc. Our lives are built on small usurpations, etc.... "

Robin and I are both gifting a spot in the next session of liberated lines. Hop on over to the blog to enter. <3
Spark. We know when we're missing it, right?  For me, it's my words. And I know that when my creative life feels dull, the rest of my life does too. When I'm focused on my writing and making with my hands, that fire begins to burn and I feel the heat of inspiration and joy. That's why I'm so excited for another round of liberated lines. It couldn't have come at a better time. My creative well is dry. I need to get back into th...

Grateful to be hosting a giveaway on Annapurna Living of our upcoming liberated lines course. Entries close on the 1st!
by Alisha Sommer If you have taken a breath or two on this earth then you have touched Love. It is everywhere within you and surrounding you. It is always with us, pulsing through our daily life, yet there is this one time of year when it slams into focus. We choose liberation through submersion. We dive in. This February we return to our liberated lines roots: Love. We all have stories about love. Love that has been lost and found,...

Radiating grace.
“I think that so many of us, especially women, feel as though we can’t show our cracking. That we should make it all look so easy and graceful. Perfect. We look at others and compare and wonder—what am I doing wrong? What if we could find the beauty in our stumble, feel the relief in the admission that with each day we are simply doing our best? What if it’s okay to let it be easy?” — Carrie-Anne Moss Carrie-Anne Mo...

This.
“I learned about the sacred art of self decoration with the monarch butterflies perched atop my head, lightning bugs as my night jewelry, and emerald-green frogs as bracelets.” — Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Women Who Run With the Wolves Carrie-Anne Moss. Image credit Denise Andrade-Kroon Those words conjure up the most beautiful picture in my mind. I can see a woman standing amongst the trees, wrapped in the light of the moon whi...

When I chose these poems by Morgan Christie to be published this week, it was before Michael Brown and the events that occurred in Ferguson, MO. I chose them because violence against black and brown-skinned is something that is still so real today and they are stories that need to be told-and can be told poetically. Head on over to read Morgan's poems.

Introduction

I believe in the power of words.

I believe that the stories we tell about our past affect our present. The stories we tell in our present can affect our future. And when we change the words we use we can change our life. This is why I write.

I am telling stories from the soul.

I am a writer. I am a truth-sayer, a soul-whisperer, a seeker. I am a deep thinker, an illuminator and a dreamer. I am an encourager, an inspirer, a word-crafter.

I am a storyteller.
