Staying on top of the world.
It is nothing we openly talk about. The longer this game exists, the more blurry becomes the line between real life and #Ingress
The earlier you started to play this game, the more power you have now. Most of hierarchy is defined “historically”. Most of the people have their power not because of their super-abilities, but just because they were the first to take the place. And of course they don't want to voluntarily give it away. Any kind of power, even if it is a power in a digital game, makes people to feel important, gives them an illusion that they have achieved something. With the great power comes great responsibility, though. The more power you have, the more your decisions do affect someone else's game life. When someone with power acts according to their ego, it might hurt others, more than you might have thought. Someone said we have democracy? Oh please, it is not and never was. And at times people seem to forget something important - we are not in military. This is just a game game, that supposed to bring fun.
We all want to be a part of something bigger. The problem is, there are always more people who want to do something important than tasks that can be assigned. Let's be honest for a moment - how many of you have filled some sort of an anomaly/intel/remote help form but never ever heard back? Everybody wants to get a piece of that tasty pie - whether you are driven by pure enthusiasm to help other and make them happy or you are searching for a way to stroke your ego by credits and applause for the done work. But only a few actually get that piece.
It is beyond understanding of any social engineer how ingress networking worldwide works - we need to trust someone whom we have never met in real life. Digital pixels. And we do give our trust. In most cases it worth it. We are getting closer to each other. We think that we know each other. Online it is very easy to show the better version of yourself. Online it is easier to fake emotions and hide real intentions. The longer people know each other, the deeper the trust. On the other hand if trust is put into wrong place it can be misused. It hurts. It can be very destructive.
Ingame politics sucks. It makes agents to fight not the storyline enemy from the opposite faction, but those those supposed to be in your team, on your side. It slowly ruins the game. No need to be in any secret chat to see that this happens inside of each faction. It is running out of control.
I want all of you to stop for a moment and look around. I want you to listen to each other. And you will see that the picture around is scary. Those who have power are afraid to lose it. Those who feel left out of loop are frustrated.
Ingress ship is sinking. The question is if it still can be rescued. Are we still able to unite and up this ship? The world around you is not what it seems. Sometimes the difference is more ugly than anyone could have ever imagined.
