Google+ hangouts are awesome for remote workers. I feel like I've been sharing an office with my friends +Paul Belanger and +Leif Madsen even though we live hundreds of miles apart. Fun times!

I have decided to leave Digium to take on new challenges. Additionally, I will be moving back to Charleston, SC to be closer to my family. Thank you for an amazing 7 years, Asterisk community!

I had Air Plus install a new HVAC system in my house. The system appears to be working well and the price seemed reasonable. Unfortunately, the installation and related service experience did not go smoothly. It was expected that this would be a 1 day job. I got a call towards the end of the day saying that the system was working, but that they would have to return first thing in the morning to complete some final cosmetic work. I got home shortly after and the technicians were still there, but outside packing up their truck. They seemed to be in a *very* big hurry to leave as quick as possible, but I didn't think much of it. I got inside the house around the time that they drove off and discovered that the system was not working and it was 90 degrees in the house (a summer day in the south). I tried to call the technicians several times. I left a voicemail and sent a text message and got no response. At this point I had to call my wife who had our two children (2 years old and a newborn) and tell them not to come home. I quickly packed up some necessities and we found another place to stay for the night. I also had to board our dogs. They showed up the next morning to continue working on the install. I got word by early afternoon that they had everything working and that the problem was that they couldn't get the system working with my existing thermostat (Nest). Instead, they installed a new thermostat. I was at least thankful that it was working for now. I followed up the next day looking for more information about the problem with the Nest thermostat. I wanted to know if there was anything else we could try, or if we could try using Nest's support for help getting it working. This message was not received well by the Air Plus salesperson. I got a rude response that included a mention of how my install set them far behind on their next install. Further, they must have been afraid I was going to withhold payment, as I got an aggressive phone call about needing to pick up their check as soon as possible. (I had a check to them first thing the next morning.) I couldn't help but respond saying that while I understand they were set behind, I was also inconvenienced. I also had to pay $100 for my dogs to stay somewhere overnight. The response was that the thermostat that they installed (for free) cost them more than that. Wow ... they just had to one-up me and get the last word, I guess. The installation manager did at least respond with some helpful details about the behavior they saw with the nest. It was enough for me that I believe they did try, and it gives me details to follow up on when I try again either myself, or with a Nest certified installer. Based on this experience, I would not recommend working with Air Plus. You can find reasonable prices on equipment many places, and hopefully a better overall experience.
