With the announcement a few weeks ago that Google+ will be winding down next year, a lot of old school gamers have looked for another way to keep the community going. Some have switched to other social media sites. Some have expanded their presence on Faceb...

Star Hat make some great minis. I’ve backed their last two Kickstarters and now this one. Great metal models, on time fulfillment, and super fast shipping.

Been spending a lot of time lately reading OD&D and Judges Guild books. In the process, I've gotten interested in the extra bits of rules that were printed on the Judges Guild Tac Cards. I've been incredibly unsuccessful in finding a set I can afford so I can check out these bits. Anyone have a set who would be willing to fill me in?

Ordered a lot of the PDF back issues of Alarums and Excursions and started digging through them. So far they’re an amazing look into the early days of D&D and rpgs. Reminds me of a lot of the conversations and commentary that people started redoing on the blogs ten years or so ago. They’re also getting me excited to get the old books out and start fiddling with things again.

Got a new character folder and a very nice Judges Guild OD&D Judge’s shield. Nice additions to the gaming collection. Of course, now I want to run some OD&D.

New year, new minis. Got the Reaper Bones 2 Kickstarter package with a couple expansions for myself for the holidays. Since the explosions from the neighbors woke me up in the wee hours, I decided to paint one to calm myself down. It'll get based once I get the bases I ordered, probably in a week or so.

This is my first time painting the Bones minis. Was pretty impressed with the detail, considering the material. It definitely needed a good scrubbing to remove the mold release, but after that it took paint very well. I washed it with brown ink and then worked up layers with Vallejo model color and Army Painter paints. The eyes were done with some ancient Citadel paints and a line of brown ink.

Dungeons & Dragons is up for induction into the National Toy Hall of Fame. You can vote if you wish. (I did.)

Several weeks ago someone added "a pony" to the supplies list. Then someone else added pink to it. Then it became a pink sparkly pony. Challenge accepted! Fortunately I used to paint a lot of Slaanesh.
