18 dollar entry fee. Beautiful grounds and house that are still being restored. Friendly and informative staff too.

Having previously visited Monticello (amazing visitor center, staff and guides) and Ashlawn Highland (understated, almost amateurish), I wasn't sure what to expect at Montpelier. However, I was pleasently surprised by the estate's excellent visitor center, professional guides and beautiful grounds. I was surprised to learn that Montpelier, under the National Trust, is just getting off the ground. Comparing the present state of the site with its recent past, it is easy to see how someday this presidential site will rival Monticello as a premier historical destination.

President Madison's family plantation is in the process of a restoration period. Very exciting to visit yearly and see progress that's been made. It's always enjoyable to visit this historic home. The beauty of the home, great staff, the ability to learn so much about Madison. The estate's vicinity near other former president's personal homes makes for an ideal place to visit. I highly recommend a trip here to experience and explore the significance of James Madison and his plantation.

It's a work in progress, but in a good way. They're still doing research into what was in the house. They also have a horse carriage ride. Recommended! We saw this on our way from DC to Monticello and there was no real extra drive time. Next time we want to add Monroe's estate too which is also nearby.

This is the way that public sites should be. The lab is a fantastic resource and the staff is so incredibly helpful. It is clear that this is the most public friendly archaeological resource.
