As fun as an iPad piano can be for a few minutes, it’s never a satisfying experience long term. And why would it be? The piano wasn’t constructed for a touch screen; it was constructed for a piano. So...

Full Moonrise

Rising as the +Sun sets, tonight's Full +Moon could be hard to miss. Remarkably, its exact full phase (May 6 03:36 UT) will occur less than two minutes after it reaches perigee, the closest point to Earth in the Moon's orbit, making it the largest Full Moon of 2012. The Full Perigee Moon will appear to be some 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than a Full Moon near apogee, the most distant point in the elliptical lunar orbit. In comparison, though, it will appear less than 1 percent larger and almost as bright as April's Full Moon, captured in this telephoto image rising over suburban Fort Collins, Colorado, USA. For that lunation, Full Moon and perigee were about 21 hours apart. Of course, if you manage to miss May's Full Perigee Moon, make a note on your calendar. Your next chance to see a Full Moon close to perigee, will be next year on June 23.

The fundamental problem for much of the world today is that investors are overreacting to debt-to-GDP ratios, fearful of some magic threshold, and demanding fiscal-austerity programs too soon. We shou...

I was thinking about this in the morning after listening to how the next big economic failure is in France. Greece wasn't enough, so let's bring up France and keep talking about it to make the economy seem bad. Most people don't grasp that money is a man-made concept. It has no real meaning.

I figured out some things about Windows gaming on a Macbook Pro tonight.

First thing is that when you use Bootcamp for Windows Apple tries to supply you with the gpu drivers through their Bootcamp update thing, but they are always way behind. To get around that, run driversweeper http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/ to eliminate all the display driver stuff from Bootcamp, reboot, and then install the latest gpu drivers. I've got the 12.3 AMD catalysts now (my MBP has a 6750m) and it is night and day in BF3 from whatever the ancient driver version Apple had provided was.

Second, this thing called Lubbo's Fan Control lets you set a much lower threshold (as well as a higher minimum rpm) for the fans in the MBP so they kick in earlier and keep the gpu from getting ridiculously hot. So much better. http://sourceforge.net/projects/lubbofancontrol/
