Microbes can be helpful in many ways, from improving digestion to helping our skin protect us from infection. Now it seems microbes might also help us avoid neurological diseases like Alzheimer’s. Our latest PLOSable PLUS, sponsored by the Center for Evolution and Medicine, discusses a study showing that countries with higher rates of microbe exposure have lower rates of Alzheimer’s disease. http://askabiologist.asu.edu/plosable/germs-old-friends

As the year ends we are looking back at 2016 and want to thank all our volunteers. Here are just a couple of the infographics from the year. We have more bits of information about the year here - https://askabiologist.asu.edu/sites/default/files/resources/general/pdf/Ask-A-Biologist-Infographic.pdf. Also, there is still time to donate to AAB before the end of 2016 - https://askabiologist.asu.edu/donate-ask-biologist

Duck for #Christmas. Not what you might be thinking. None of these ducks are part of our meal plan. These ducks have been in our lake out back. The Mallard ducks are common. The American Wigeon is new for us as is the Wood Duck. The Wood Duck is more rare for the Phoenix area. More about these birds can be found with our Bird Finder tool. https://askabiologist.asu.edu/activities/birds
