Building on social platforms is dangerous no matter what "viral channels" they provide.

I've been researching this newly fashioned term "native ads" and here are my thoughts:

Native Ads is a way to justify click trickery in internet advertising.  Slightly oxymoronic that in this Techcrunch article, Greenberg says:

Ads that are native to a site don’t live in the corners and don’t interrupt the user; they exist in the stream of content, and when done well, they bring new value to the user experience of the site in the form of brand content — promoted videos, sponsored stories, relevant coupons, promoted posts.

I'd argue that a sponsored tweet on Twitter or a sponsored story on Facebook interrupts me even more so than a banner ad living on the side.  And contrived as well.

No doubt there's a war going on between publishers and their audiences; publishers want to get paid; consumers have been trained to get their service for free (free search engine, free social network, etc).  But let's not put lipstick on a pig and make native ads look any better than banner ads.  It's just a matter of time until consumers feel just as duped into clicking a Native Ad as they used to feel shooting a monkey in a 468x60 banner.

I don't think so. We provide hip hop native video advertising content.

It's just an accident that we happen to be on earth, enjoying our silly little moments, distracting ourselves as often as possible so we don't have to really face up to the fact that, you know, we're just temporary people with a very short time in a universe that will eventually be completely gone. And everything that you value, whether it's Shakespeare, Beethoven, da Vinci, or whatever, will be gone. The earth will be gone. The sun will be gone. There'll be nothing. The best you can do to get through life is distraction. Love works as a distraction. And work works as a distraction. You can distract yourself a billion different ways. But the key is to distract yourself.

Why platforms suck - especially if you've raised $30MM depending on one.
