What's inside Jupiter?

In Part 1 of this presentation, physicist Wal Thornhill began his analysis of the extraordinary revelations from NASA's Juno Mission to the gas giant Jupiter. Like every other recent space mission, what scientists are finding is not what they expected.

In the previous episode, Thornhill focused on Jupiter’s remarkable, electrified atmosphere, an environment that astonished astronomers in 1994, when it was “probed” by the natural intruder, Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9. Today, Thornhill will explore the internal composition and dynamics of the gas giant, already a source of major surprise for NASA investigators.

Although 2017 may have seemed to pass by quickly, engineers and scientists have been hard at work innovating the technologies of tomorrow.

"...Renewable energy, which obviously wins on emissions, is now beating coal on cost. What’s more, with an energy grid managed effectively by people who want renewables to succeed, it is no less reliable than fossil fuels. The fact that arch-conservative, Cory Bernardi, was recently revealed to have installed rooftop solar panels demonstrates that these people do not even believe their own rhetoric. They have just chosen to throw truth onto the fire of climate change for political reasons..."

CRS-10 Falcon 9 First Stage Landing

A couple weeks ago, +SpaceX successfully launched a cargo resupply mission from LC-39A to the International Space Station (ISS). As the Dragon CRS capsule continued onwards towards the ISS, the Falcon 9 Full Thrust rocket performed a vertical landing at Landing Zone 1 (LZ-1) in Cape Canaveral. Launch Complex 39 was previously used by NASA for the Apollo and Space Shuttle programs and is now being leased by SpaceX for Falcon 9 launches.

First re-flight of orbital class rocket

Last Thursday, +SpaceX successfully re-launched and landed the first stage of a Falcon 9 rocket on the drone ship Of Course I Still Love You. This is the first re-flight of an orbital class rocket in human history (sorry Blue Origin, you don't count) and a major milestone for the space industry. The ability to re-use the most expensive part of a rocket promises to drastically reduce the cost of future spaceflight.
