my whippet puppy is 10 weeks old and cries when left alone, am working on clicker crate training with her and have not closed the door on her, she cries in her puppy pen and tries to jump the gate, has made it once. I am worried she will hurt herself. The thing i dont understand is what is the best thing to do with her when i have to go out, she cant come out with me on the school run as the school has no dog policy by the gate. I dont want to leave her crying or cause more issues by never leaving her etc. thanks for taking the time to listen
I don't have great unique suggestions, but make sure you aren't ever letting her out when she cries. Start for super short periods of time - even if it's only for a few seconds. Working up as time goes. Try to reward and let her back out before she starts crying. Unfortunately you can't really start with long periods of time, so leaving may be difficult. When you do leave give her a great treat to work on and distract. A kong or a bullystick. Something that will last a while. Try to get back before it's gone if you can.
