Introduction
I'm just this gal who draws stuff.

Now that the whole Internet is here, I must add this note for folks from Egypt: I don't speak Arabic, the name is just a pen name I've been using for a while.

This morning, I got up and pushed the giant stone labeled “Decrypting Rita” another few inches up the mountain. The Sisyphean labor of this book is almost complete. My reward? I get to get back to work on the next one settling into that comfortable rhythm…

From the department of needing another project like I need another hole in my head: Build a magic wand. There’s this story making the rounds about a magic shop that makes hand-made wands, and refuses to sell them to people who just want toys. Personally…

Yesterday there was a post about Tarot decks on Metafilter that kinda reminded me mine is out of print. Maybe I should consider putting together a Kickstarter to reprint it; I miss having it to sell at cons. Not sure I really want to bother with laying…

This is an email I get with increasing regularity: “I found your work on [INSERT WEBSITE HERE] and love it. You should come sell your stuff on [WEBSITE]!” I used to just ignore them. But lately, I’ve started replying with words to the effect of “Why…

Sooo   The past week I’ve been attempting to figure out Blender. Goddamn its UI is hostile as fuck. Especially with crazy choices like “use the right mouse button for selecting stuff”, which they claim makes ergonomic sense because it spreads the load out…

“Kubo and the Two Strings” is the most gorgeous and masterful animated feature that I never want to see again. You should go see it. It is exactly what I needed to see to remind me why I do what I do while I'm still mourning the second loss of a parent.…

Got up. Read the morning internet. Pondered the overflowing laundry bin: am I gonna do it in two consecutive loads at the apartment building’s laundry room, or haul it down to the laundromat to do it in two simultaneous loads? I decided to ponder this in…

So this week I’ve been thinking about media and gatekeepers and swaying the minds of the next generation. One thing that keeps on popping up in the back of my head is Gary Panter’s “Rozz Tox Manifesto”. Google only shows one page with the text of the…

The mess I work in when I’m at home. Not shown: stool at an appropriate height for sitting in front of the screen sometimes, coffee table that I used to clear off and sit on the floor to work at before Trina commandeered it for future castle parts.

Every so often, I think “oh hey, my mother is dead” and I'm sad again. But on the whole, I'm a little less sad each time. Eventually I won't feel much of anything when I think it, most of the time. It'll just be a fact of my life. And that feels kind of…

I’m out in Shoreline, in the northern part of Seattle’s sprawl. I feel like I’m in an alien place. I grew up near the edge of where New Orleans shades into suburbs, a short bus or bicycle ride away from downtown. As I grew older I moved to one of the…

A full service chickens experience! My chicken was on the gruff side but that's how I like it.

Chill people making damn tasty biscuits, and covering them with all kinds of delightful jams and butters. Love the decor, too.

The Comic Stop is great. They have the usual racks of all the DC and Marvel superhero stuff if that's what you're into, but if you're like me and couldn't care less about that, they've got a kid's section, an indy section, European and Japanese imports, and all kinds of good stuff.

I go to this location fairly regularly to mail out books people have bought. I've always found the folks working here to be pretty cool and reasonably friendly, even in the face of someone showing up with fifty identical packages to mail. Lines can be long sometimes. It's a post office, in the middle of a busy area. This will happen.
