I was born in a tool shed in southeastern Queensland to a deer herder and a parachute seamstress. I didn't speak until I was four, partially due to a rare genetic condition of the vocal cords and partially because I really didn't have much to say.
As I was acutely aware of each tick of the clock on the detention room wall, the years passed slowly. In seventh grade I proved that a triangle was indeed a circle, and was immediately admitted to the Institute for Advanced Study in Nerang (NSHS) and was recruited by the CSIRO. In ninth grade my first girlfriend dumped me for someone with better taste in white goods. For the remainder of high school, I was a member of the Speech & Drama Elite and the local Dungeons & Dragons posse.
With luck on my side, I was admitted into Bachelor of Creative Arts to study Theatre & Creative Writing (a degree that practically guarantees you a job just about anywhere) and excelled as a writer of sick & twisted works of fiction and a brilliant actor (who didn’t take direction particularly well).
After graduation, while performing as part of a Shakespearean theatre troupe I met the love of my life and her two darling children and decided instantly that we would forever be family. While working as a cleaner I decided that the real world was far too scary, discovered I had a knack for filmmaking and enrolled in a MA. Upon completion of my MA I embarked on a journey of enlightenment writing and producing soul crushing television commercials and corporate, promotional and educational videos & multimedia.
Once I had prostituted myself long enough I decided I would become an Education Designer at the University of QLD (to this day I am still unsure exactly what an Education Designer actually is). These jobs reinforced the fact that the ‘real-world’ was for suckers and I returned to the comfy, cosseted confines of Griffith University to teach the young folk. I also began a successful career as a freelance camera operator, editor and music video producer.
Deciding that one full-time job is not enough I also began working at Photon VFX in Hollywood (on the Gold Coast) as a data operator, however quickly became indispensable as a dust-buster, roto-dog and amateur Shake unthusiast. Not satisfied with only two degrees I completed an MPhil & not so promptly enrolled in a PhD, all the while providing an explosive film & screen education to malnourished & impoverished university students.
