A month ago, I launched an interactive Boston Globe timeline/map of same-sex marriage in the United States. I've been updating it almost every day since then, as new developments have happened on state and national levels. Check it out, and keep coming back, as we'll continue to add more.

Several years ago, a colleague taught me a trick that gives you the appearance of hand-drawn detail in infographics: you take your vector graphic, draw some shadows and then touch it up in Photoshop. ...

+Larry Hannan of The Florida Times-Union investigated Jacksonville Transportation Authority bus drivers for a piece that ran this past Sunday. But before the piece even ran, it led to shake-ups at the JTA, unaware of drivers' records until Larry's investigation.

I was approached by my friend +Topher Sanders about designing the cover of his book "Aysel's Arrow," which was released on Amazon today. I got to try a few different variations before settling on the Hiaasen-esque cover that we used.
Every once in a while, I get to do a book cover for a friend who has a fun book project. Last year, my friend and former colleague Topher Sanders approached me about a women's literature project h...

My friends and former colleagues at The Florida Times-Union have been busy with Jaguars, mustaches and more.

Did the second oldest rivalry in college football just end? Perhaps, and with not much coverage from a lot of the regional publications. With the exception of the Columbia Missourian, of course.
Coverage of Missouri/Kansas Border War and Mizzou's SEC move. November 27th, 2011 at 11:54. College Football just finished its annual Rivalry Week, that great week when college sports fans most re...

Games against KU were as important to Mizzou sports as the "Battlestar Galactica" episodes when you found out the identity of another Cylon. To Mizzou fans, Kansas was the rival among rivals. Kansas is the Cavil among the other Cylons. If the Big 12 were "The X-Files," Kansas was Cancer Man among the Syndicate, foiling Mizzou's Mulder and Scully. Watching Mizzou beat KU was like watching the trailer scene in "Kill Bill" when Darryl Hannah gets what she has coming.
Yesterday was a historic day for fans of Missouri and Kansas, as the two universities' men's basketball teams faced off in what is ostensibly the last of their meetups in the historic Border W...

When Boston Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield announced on Friday that he's retiring, many of his records in the Sox organization were discussed. But my favorite of Wakefield's distinctions is that he became the oldest active player in the history of the team, leading to one of my first enterprise projects at The Boston Globe.
On Friday, Boston Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield announced he's retiring after 19 seasons in the major leagues, 17 of which were with the Red Sox. Wakefield got his 200th career win this past seaso...

My friend and former colleague +Topher Sanders has co-written a book with Elizabeth Román. Aysel's Arrow is out today on Amazon. They graciously answered my questions about how the novel came about, and discuss the cover, which I designed.

In the same vein as the post about journalists starting their own sites, I present musings on "brands." Do we as journalists have brands? Or is that term too gimmicky for journalists who prided themselves on their separation from advertising?
Do we have “brands”? Or just reputations for our work? November 22nd, 2011 at 10:39. A question I've struggled with recently is whether journalists have “brands.” I've heard that term a lot in...
