A great Soldier and a great Texan. Today we remember Audie L. Murphy who was born on this day in 1924. Rejected by the paratroopers, the Navy and the Marines, the dimunitive Texan joined the Army, assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division and went on to become the most highly decorated soldier of WWII. After the war, Murphy continued to serve in the Texas Army National Guard where he attained the rank of Major. Audie Murphy was one of the first to bring to light what we now know as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and the effects it has on a person long after the guns have been silenced. Audie Murphy's life was cut short when he died in a plane crash near Roanoke, VA. He was 46 years old. Audie Murphy is buried in Section 27 of Arlington National Ceremony, just across from the Amphitheater where curent and former soldiers join the President, Vice President and various Veterans groups from across the country twice a year to honor the living and remember the fallen.

These are the boys of Pointe du Hoc. These are the men who took the cliffs. These are the champions who helped free a continent. These are the heroes who helped end a war.

Gentlemen, I look at you and I think of the words of Stephen Spender's poem. You are men who in your ``lives fought for life . . . and left the vivid air signed with your honor.'' #ArmyTeam #DDay73
