While we were staying in Boone my friend suggested caving with River and Earth. I thought it would be similar to the commercial caves I've been in maybe just minus the sidewalks and railings. I was wrong. This was about a million times more fun than I thought it would be!!! Our guides Dave and Mac were absolutely fantastic! Dave was extremely passionate about the cave and very knowledgeable. He seemed to really enjoy his job and his enthusiam was contagious! Dave and Mac were both great guys and great guides! They were both fun and very enthusiastic! We spent almost 3 hours in the cave and it went by way too fast! This was one of the best excursions I have been on and I can't stop talking about it! The two people I was with felt the same and we will definitely be bringing some more friends next time! I cant recommend this more highly enough! We didn't plan on doing the rafting afterwards, but we had such a high from the caving we decided to keep it going! Again, this far exceeded my expectations! The river was the most beautiful river I have ever seen! Crystal clear! You could see the fish on the bottom and everything! Dave also made it very entertaining when he handed out the water guns! This day was a blast!!! We will definitely be doing this again!

Josh, Matt, Noah, and Joe are some of the coolest, salt-of-the-earth people you'll ever meet. Not only were they awesome guys, but they were stupid hilarious! Josh was excellent with navigating me and my bestie down the river, even with the water being low and two bouts of torrential downpour on our journey. When the river was on the up-and-up, the silence was filled with great conversations. They will definitely have my business from now on, and really made my road trip HIGHLY enjoyable!!

In terms of kayaking this place fell short. The stretch of the New River they use is far too shallow. The entrance and exit points are very bad if not dangerous. Basically warn down areas on the banks which make it very difficult to depart from the river. The location my group stopped at was next to a bridge with jagged cement and rebar, one slip and you have a serious injury. Not to mention I had no help with my kayak. I also wish their facilities were at the river as opposed to 25 minutes away in Boone. This meant that my group had no where to change once we made it back to our car after kayaking. We had to use a public restroom at the nearest drive-thru. One employee said the parking lot was remote as if we were meant to change clothes in a populated open field. However, the staff was very nice. The majority of people seemed to be tubing so that would probably be the better bet as opposed to kayaking. Personally I will stick with rental places that offer better facilities at the river and better access points.

Just came back from white water rafting on the Watauga river with our family. Creston was our guide. He was great! Right out of the gate he took our family of 4 to the cliff jump. We climbed up the steep escarpment and took the plunge into the very cold water. My just 4 and just 7 year old were a little shocked by the cold water. Mommy and Daddy were very shocked by the cold water. The rapids were not dangerous and Creston kept it interesting when the water got a little lazy. Loved the personal touch of this small local owned company. It took us about 1 hr 15 min to get to the outpost from Boone. I would highly recommend River and Earth!

We went up and did the raft trip via group on and it was a nice relaxing afternoon. The weather turned bad half way through our trip and Madison was so sweet and offered to pick us up half way through trip and get us back to our vehicles. Then, in all the chaos I forgot my camera in the van and did not realize it until we got back home. Grant was so nice and ensured it got mailed back to me. I am looking forward to doing this trip again with better weather. The people are extremely nice and friendly and the value for a day out in the water is well worth the money!

Did the family friendly Watauga River trip with my wife and two kids. This was our first time rafting and everybody loved it. My 10 year old and fourteen year old wanted more rapids and next time we are going to do the French Broad trip. Our guide Ian was outgoing, very knowledgeable, and gave us a great outdoor experience. Another family with guide Mike accompanied us and they even brought the grandparents. Everybody had a great time!
