Most European cities have a large central square. This is Piazza del Duomo which is the central square in Milan. As the name implies the Milan Cathedral is at the other side of this square. This statue commemorates King Victor Emmanuel II the first king of united Italy. I got up early to shoot the square in the early morning light when there are not many people. I like the illuminated buildings against the deep blue early dawn sky.

Legend has it that Jason and the Argonauts passed through what is now Ljubljana and slew a great monster in the swamp there. The Slovenians have interpreted this monster to be a dragon and it has become a symbol of the city. The dragon bridge was built in the late 19th century when Slovenia was part of the Austro-Hungarian empire. It is a wonderful example of art nouveau or secessionist style which was in vogue at the time. I like this shot with the out of focus spires of the cathedral in the background.

I sold a 24 X 36 metal print of my Under the Pier II image last weekend. I usually include this image in my display at art fairs and it has been very popular. I like the symmetry of the composition and the pastel colors. I also like the tranquility of this image. Perhaps it is popular because people like to look at the ocean.

This is the bow of a typical Maltese fishing boat. The fishermen always decorate the bow with eyes because they believe that this will protect the boat from any mishaps at sea. I like the graphic quality and the vivid colors of this image.

These are snow monkeys or Japanese Macaques. They are the most northerly living monkeys in the world and the only monkeys living in a region where snow is common hence the name. We share over 95% of our DNA with macaques so it is no surprise that they resemble humans in many ways. These two resemble an old married couple and are actually relaxing in a hot spring. The local Japanese built retaining walls to make pools of the hot spring water so that the monkeys could enjoy soaking in them. I enjoyed spending time with them when I visited Nagano many years ago!

Whenever I am traveling, I like to visit botanical gardens. This is the Limahuli Garden on the north shore of Kauai, I like the rugged peak which you can see in the distance with the bird of paradise in the foreground. In Japanese gardens, this is called "shakkei" which means borrowed landscape. Japanese landscape designers often incorporate a distant mountain or landscape feature into the design of their gardens. I wonder if this garden's creator knew that they were using a time-honored Japanese garden design technique?

Here is a photo which could make you feel cooler on a hot summer day. This is a waterfall I found in Croatia's Plitvice National Park. It was such a beautiful place with an abundance of water and waterfalls. I used a long shutter speed to make the waterfall look silky.

Italy is well known for its fabulous churches and St. Peter's Basilica is the most famous one. I took this shot of the dome when we were walking up to the dome roof. It was so impressive to see it up close. You cannot see much detail when it is viewed from the ground floor.

During the summer I keep busy displaying my artwork at several art fairs. This is my booth display at a recent art fair. Recently I have been including some larger images in my booth display.Hopefully it will pay off over time. I make more money selling one large piece rather than selling several small ones. My recent display is mostly metal prints, but I also include several traditional prints and also some acrylic prints as well.
