The Tradition 2277 is another sewing machine from Singer that is a good fit for a beginner or for someone tackling smaller projects. This unit has 23 built-in stitches and is very easy to setup and very easy to use. It is also not particularly expensive ($105 - $130 or so). It does have a few issues though.

In this review we look at the reasonably priced Singer Fashion Mate 3333 sewing machine. Owners feel that this machine is "good bang for your buck" and that it is really easy to operate. This is a great machine for the beginner.

The Janome NQM2016 National Quilt Museum 25th Anniversary Edition has 60 built-in stitches and is powerful and sturdy, yet quiet. It is, as one would expect, also a great machine for quilting. Consumer ratings are excellent there are very few negative comments. Also, despite the hefty price tag (almost $600 USD), no owners appear to be dissatisfied with their purchase – quite the opposite. It is definitely worth a look if you are thinking “Janome”.

We just took a quick look at the Singer Professional 9100 sewing machine. With an average owner rating of 79.4 out of 100, it is not one of the higher rated machines we have looked at. However it does sport a huge number of stitches (over 400) and a ton of other features. It also comes with 10 presser feet, a host of additional accessories, and even a DVD with sewing tips. Some folks love it while others hate it.

If you love to quilt or even if you just want a sewing machine that makes beautiful straight stitches, you should check out the Juki TL-2010Q. This is a well-made, solid machine that is capable of sewing through all manner of thick materials, even at high speed. However, it is a bit hefty and it isn't cheap.

We recently looked at another machine in Brother’s long line of “Project Runway” sewing machines.  The CE7070PRW is a computerized Sewing Machine and a great starter unit.  It also comes with enough features and accessories to make it a good fit even for those with a little more experience.  It has 70 built-in stitches, 7 one-step buttonholes and 7 specialty presser feet, as well as an extension table for larger projects.  In addition, it’s fairly lightweight and not too noisy.  But – like many sewing machines today – it is made with lots of plastic parts and some owners are concerned about durability. Despite this, consumer ratings are very good and you should be able to find the CE7070PRW for between $150 and $175 if you look around.  You can read more in our review.

We recently wrote about the Juki HZL-F600, a computerized sewing machine with a retail price in excess of $1000USD. This is a heavy duty, solid sewing machine with over 200 stitch patterns. It is very popular for quilting. Consumer ratings are top notch but there are still a few issues.

The Janome Memory Craft 6300P sewing machine is not cheap, but it is getting excellent reviews from owners. It is sturdy, powerful, fast and something of a workhorse. It is a great fit for quilting projects, garments, home decor and much more.  It is also capable of sewing through multiple layers of heavy material while maintaining a high quality stitch.  It does not have a free arm however – which could be an issue for some folks.

We've just taken a look at the Singer 1304 Start. It is a small, lightweight sewing machine that is a good fit for beginners or those looking for a portable unit.  It is also quite affordable and can usually be found for under $100.  Operating the machine is straightforward and fairly simple and it comes with 6 built-in stitches.  Some owners struggle with thread jamming issues however.

We recently looked at the Singer S18 quilting and sewing machine.  This is a rather high end computerized machine and owner ratings are good.  It also has another surprise – it is made by Janome and modeled after the popular Janome 6500P.  But it costs less.
