Running until early April 2013 in Rome is an exhibition entitled 'Canova - Il segno della Gloria'.
At the Museo di Roma (Palazzo Braschi) this exhibition features sketches, designs and sculptures that strive to explain the 'birth of ideas' in this Venetian artist.

Soon to open in Rome (Maxxi) is a major exhibition on Le Corbusier:

"... Architect, sculptor, painter and a brilliant thinker of his time, the creator of an architecture based on social needs, one of the fathers of modern town planning and a master of the Modern Movement: Charles-Edouard Jeanneret-Gris, better known as Le Corbusier. MAXXI Architecture is focussing on this figure with the exhibition L’Italia di Le Corbusier."

Leonardo da Vinci's 'Adoration of the Magi' (Uffizi Gallery, Florence) is about to undergo another restoration, this one to last two years. The work has been subjected to various advanced scanning techniques and these seem to have given the lie to the theory that Leonardo 'just' sketched the work, others being delegated to do the subsequent colouring.
Not so, apparently - there is a consistency in pigment, technique and brush-strokes.

The exhibition, entitled 'Goya: cronista de todas las guerras' is at the Instituto Cervantes di Roma in Piazza Navona, and runs from the 21st of September until the 10th of November 2012.

The exhibition features over 80 pieces, engravings the artist called 'disasters of war' that saw him hailed as the father of photojournalism.

A predictable end to the hunt for the 'lost' Leonardo da Vinci masterpiece in Florence - the Battle of Anghiari - as research is stopped amidst claim and counter-claim.

Stop. Start. On. Off. Soon. Maybe not soon.

So goes the recent tale of the privately-funded (sponsored) restoration work on the Colosseum in Rome.

The mayor announced a couple of days ago that work was quite literally about to start.
Today we've been told December. Maybe.
