As a resilience trainer and peacebuilder who works with youth I'm excited to hear firsthand how some of our teachers are sharing conflict resolution skills with others. Now more than ever, youth nees guidance to navigate an increasingly more violent world.

So proud to be a tiny part of this incredible vision that Kim Wright is spearheading around the world among the legal community. All professions in one way or another are facing disruption and change as technology and it’s accompanying stresses as well as promises brings us to new realizations about wellbeing, power, wealth distribution and sustainability. My vision is of a conscious community that is evolving into value based practices that not only bring hope to our individual disciplines but also honors the fun that comes with innovation and encourages growth models that don’t presume that they always must be painful to come into fruition! #changemakers #peacebuilders can be #fun #optimistic #inclusive and #pragmatic as well as #intellectual

As the New Year Approaches many people will be making wonderful goals to begin anew, and one laudable aim is to stop smoking. As a brain health coach I have seen many people switch to vaping and e-cigarettes in the hope that it will help curb the habit or stop negative side effects. Two truths however, have emerged on these ideas, the first, an earlier study showing that unless you really reduce the nicotine intake and set clear goals to stop vaping, the substitute can become as addicting as regular cigarettes, and now, this sobering report that the nicotine levels and their labeling are not well monitored and therefore deceiving. This means you could be getting less nicotine or up 52 per cent more nicotine than the label represents!
Nonetheless, dot let anything deter you from your goal. This New Year's Eve is a great time to commit to stop smoking! To do so, just understand that the brain can use simple, easy solutions to break habits, so think ahead and make substitute habits readily available, a pack of gum, mouth wash, something to chew on, keep them very handy, in your car, pockets, drawers at work, because the less the brain has to think, the less threatened and stressed it will feel.
Meditation is an incredible habit to pick up as an additional relaxant. Nutritional supplements like Amen Clinics Crave Control is a good helper as well, just make sure to have a glass of water and your supplements handy by the bed, to make it even easier to remember.
Check your State's health Department for hotlines and support groups with detailed plans to stop smoking. There are many people, including me, standing ready to help you keep your goals. Be kind to yourself, and never give up! When you stop smoking you will make many people happy, including your brain!

The American Bar Association just released a study on implicit bias that demonstrates that within the legal profession women still continue to face an uphill battle to get equal pay or enter into partnership and leadership positions. But the science behind the implicit bias is deeply flawed as this outstanding piece by Doctor Daniel Amen implies! To learn more about the Amen Clinics and how I incorporate brain health coaching in my leadership seminars for attorneys and professionals, check out www.debranorwood.com
Brain studies demonstrate that women lead in empathy, intuition, self-control, collaboration and appropriate worry. It is time for a paradigm shift!

In these difficult times when communication seeks to be waning among certain political spheres it behooves us to remember the basics: what are the core competencies in leadership and how can we nurture them? One glue that binds across all competencies is the ability to relate to others with some way to distance oneself from personalization and anger. For me, the use of therapeutic humor and laughter allows me to develop the ability to not only express empathy and compassion but expand my conflict resolution skills to embrace #humor4peace And a peacebuilding skills set is integral in today's world!

My thanks to the World Laughter Tour, The Association of Applied and Therapeutic Humor, The Positive Psychology Association, The Anasazi Foundation, The J.Reuben Clark Legal Society , Dr. Earl Henslin and Amen Clinics for their role in molding my concept of what it means to be a rainbow in someone's cloud --professionally speaking. On a personal note, I thank my parents, my family and all my dearest friends who have led me to know and understand the meaning of #resilience You know who you are. I wear you forever in my heart. <3

Great article by friend and mentor, Steve Wilson. Humor in business can be a touchy thing, especially among the genders. Toxic humor, where people are laughing at, not with one another may promote friction, resentment, and even arise to the level of sexual harassment and a creation of a hostile work environment . Women and humor at work as an even more delicate matter as women strive to break glass ceiling in pay and recognition. A great think piece!

Love the fun acronym! Let's all be dumb together! Innovative thoughts that incorporate humor can be very effective! This acronym acknowledges that people judge these principles to be too simplistic--even naive, yet they are as powerful as life itself in making lasting changes in the human heart. If that's dumb--then let me be dumb and dumber! Lol! #humor4peace
