Welcome to World Otter Day! Africa Alive! is home to Zippy and Bonnie our two beautiful Asian small-clawed otters and as the name suggests this species originates from Southeast Asia. Small-clawed otters are classed as ‘vulnerable’ on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red Data List and this conservation status is mainly due to river pollution and habitat loss adversely affecting otter populations. Asian small-clawed otters inhabit shallow and fast flowing waters. Their usual diet would be crabs, snails, frogs, young birds, eggs, fish and small mammals. #worldotterday #conservation @InternationalOtterSurvivalFund
