Here is an animated gif illustrating an earth year of the solar system, based on data source provided by NASA,  and made by Dynamic Diagrams.

There is also a much better, interactive version assembling an Orrery that illustrates the positions of the planets and moons in our solar system and allows a user to view their alignment at any given date in the past or present. Check it out: http://bit.ly/17AlqWM

Gravitational lensing creates cosmic emoticon

I've seen many articles go up about this amazing image taken by the +Hubble Space Telescope, from +TIME to +Washington Post to this article shared out by my friend +Bethany Brookshire... which I absolutely love.

It's focused on explaining the science of this awesome image so students can better understand what's going on. To learn more about gravitational lensing and the "Einstein Ring" seen here, go read the article below. It's short and very easy to understand!

Ancients used to ‘see’ the outline of animals and other well-known things as constellations in the night sky. Now astronomers have done much the same thing. But they’ve spotted a more distant — if totally modern — shape: a smiley face!

Arch being built over Chernobyl's unit 4 reactor.
A 32,000-ton arch that will end up costing $1.5 billion is being built in Chernobyl, Ukraine, to all but eliminate the risk of further contamination at the site of the 1986 nuclear reactor explosion.

Story
Introduction
Born in a ball pit, fought my way through plastic spheres to watch a very green sunrise.

Being raised to "see" and fed entirely on pie I grew up quickly. I then shrunk a little bit but grew back again.

I am now drawn towards propellers, vibrating strings and things that rebound.
