Ignite passion for STEAM with ignition (of hydrogen - performed on parkland).
You are made of it. Our planet is covered by it. Come and learn all about it at H2Oh!, the last PACT STEAM Committee production for the 2015 school year. Learn about water pressure, density, volume, energy creation, and much, much more. And of course you are guaranteed to have a lot of fun in the process. We hope to see you there.

Food truck will be there.

This morning, the entire Stevenson PACT was turned into a giant (especially if you were a kinder) market place where all students traded their "goods and services", using beads as currency.  Just another of PACT's PBL (project base learning) showcase aimed at students themselves.  In fact, Market Day is one of the earliest PBL productions that began over a decade ago.  Unlike the other early school-wide PBL showcase, Stevensburg-Castroville that fifth-graders produce and show to other grades, all grades participates in production - and trade.

These "goods and services", of course, accumulate months of learning, planning, and making at appropriate grade level. (All pictures are in panorama.  Google+'s previews will not do them justice - open them in viewer.)

Elements of PBL (project based learning) has been in Stevenson PACT's DNA since Day One.  We launched a formal drive to make PBL the common teaching framework in school year 2013-2014.  The current year is the first to expand PBL to the entire school.

Teacher +Trevor Mattea shared some books that his third-grade students have written and narrated during a three-month project. (Each class has a different project.)  Here is one of them.

It was Stevenson PACT's PBL (project based learning) exhibition night the night before.  Each class has a different project.  Here is one of the books written by a third grader, audio recorded by the author. (Read more in +Trevor Mattea's page.)

After several high turnout Walk to School Days, our Eco Committee created Carbon Fewer Friday series two years ago to encourage sustained reduction of carbon footprint. Recognition, prize give-away to classrooms and individuals and, of course, fruit punch from kiddie labor (on bike mixer). Pictured: our partner VERBS gives lesson about energy and physical exercise.

It's Garden Work Day!  Come to our organic garden with (or without) your little ones and get some work done!  Kidding.  Seriously, come have some fun!

What is this?  Stevenson PACT's famed Gardening curriculum enrichment program is integrated into students' academic work.  This means that there will be tasks that need to be completed outside class time.  Garden Work Days are a great opportunity for the community to show our kids that we care about their education - and for kids to learn some lessons while jiggling their sillies out. (Even your pre-K kids will enjoy it!)  You do not have to stay the entire time, either.

Basic tools will be provided, as will coffee and refreshment.  Coming with garden gloves, hat, and sunscreen is a good idea.  Your own tools are welcome.  Many parents bring kid-sized tools for their little ones, too.

PACT kids have cultural origin from all six continents.  Spring is the time to celebrate!  Come to Mountain View Spring Family Parade on Saturday April 25 to see us on Castro.  If your little ones are in celebratory mode, you are also welcome to bring them to Villa and Hope where we wait.  Decorate them (and yourselves) in anything related to your culture.  (PACT will be Group #9 for year 2015.)
