My lazy blog post of the week. I've been stalled on writing Yet Another Post About the Drug War, but I'll finish it soon.

Eh, long story. I'm not sure when I'll revive it. I should just post over at my group blog (Libertarian Standard), but Other Stuff has gotten in the way. Glad to see you're still around!

I was pleased to write a guest post for +Lucy Steigerwald's Stag Blog, on the classic post-apocalypse novel A Canticle for Leibowitz.

This became much longer than I thought. And this isn't really about Ani DiFranco, but about the ways in which the state and the economic ruling class still profit from the legacy of slavery.
Folk singer and feminist icon Ani DiFranco has had a tough week. On Sunday, she canceled a songwriting retreat planned for June after facing withering criticism over the location, the Nottoway Plantation and Resort outside New Orleans. It did seem to be a tone-deaf choice for an event hosted by ...

My last post of 2013 (also my first since August, 'cause I'm a slacker): wishing you a very Happy (and high) New Year!
Tomorrow, the country’s first legal retail shops to sell recreational marijuana will open for business in Colorado. This comes 14 short months since the state’s voters approved the legalized possession, use, and sale of marijuana. Washington state, which also passed a pot legalization measure, will soon follow, probably sometime in June. It’s even happening internationally: […]

We need more affordable dental care, not an authoritarian crackdown on those trying to provide it, as I blog:
Delao admits he skirted the law, but isn't remorseful. “Jesus Christ didn't need or didn't have a license,” Jose Delao told Yahoo News during a jailhouse interview. “People hurt and they needed it. Pe...

I'm not sure if this is the right place to report this, but the VICE.com RSS feed is really mangled when I read it in feedly. Text is frequently missing or corrupted, image tags appear instead of images themselves, and basically it's just unreadable. I have to click on an item to open it on the VICE site to read it. I've reached out to VICE as well but got no response from them.

Some thoughts on the persecution, er I mean prosecution of Aaron Swartz, one year after his death. This wasn't so much written as it was birthed in a bloody, squalling rage.

No amount of whining about sky-high car fares will change the fact that Uber's surge pricing policy is fair, rational, and pro-consumer, unlike the regulated taxi cartels.

I blogged on Eric Holder's announcement of minor drug offense sentencing reforms in The Libertarian Standard:
More than forty years after the U. S. government launched the modern drug war, its highest-ranking prosecutor has tacitly admitted that it is a legal and moral failure: In a major shift in criminal justice policy, the Obama administration moved on Monday to ease overcrowding in federal prisons by ordering prosecutors to omit listing quantities […]
