Explosive: Stunning backstory inside HSBC scandal
Published: 02/10/2015 at 9:08 PM By Drew Zahn
... "Documents leaked by a whistleblower to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists recently revealed HSBC bank employees had for years actively helped customers – including drug traffickers, arms dealers and wealthy power players around the world – conceal enormous amounts of money from the taxman.

Though the allegations were first exposed by WND in 2012 and prompted a federal investigation, Lynch, then the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of New York, negotiated a settlement that allowed HSBC to pay a $1.9 billion fine rather than face criminal charges" ...

... "In Cairo, Obama touched on the broad issue of political change in a sclerotic Arab world whose rulers sold themselves as guarantors of stability and western interests. That required an especially delicate balance. Watching as he spoke was Egypt's Hosni Mubarak, a US ally for whom democracy was a dirty word" ... "America, the president said, with a humble nod to these ageing Arab autocrats – and in a lightly coded reference to Bush's controversial "freedom agenda" – did "not presume to know what is best for everyone". But there was a bigger nod: "I do have an unyielding belief that all people yearn for certain things: the ability to speak your mind and have a say in how you are governed; confidence in the rule of law and the equal administration of justice; government that is transparent and doesn't steal from the people; the freedom to live as you choose."

Eighteen months later, the uprisings of the Arab spring tested that awkward construct. From the short and mostly peaceful revolution in Tunisia to carnage in Syria, Obama's responses have, as one admirer put it, mixed "pragmatism and values".

Egypt's revolution provided the first hurdle. Obama was criticised for backing stability as the drama of Tahrir Square unfolded. But on 1 February came his call for Mubarak to step down "now". As the New York Times wrote: "Obama upended three decades of American relations with its most stalwart ally in the Arab world, putting the weight of the United States squarely on the side of the Arab street."
So when Mohamed Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood leader who succeeded Mubarak to become Egypt's first democratically elected president, visited Washington last month – after demonstrations in Cairo and far beyond over a crude Islamophobic film — the tension was as obvious as the change was palpable. The US hope is that engagement, combined with the responsibility of" ...

... "Secretary of State John Kerry said that the Internet "needs rules to be able to flourish and work properly." This, according to Kerry, is necessary even for "a technology founded on freedom."
Speaking on behalf of the Obama administration, Kerry said that Internet policy is "a key component of our foreign policy."
Kerry made his remarks in the context of talking about how international law is applicable to the Internet. "As I’ve mentioned, the basic rules of international law apply in cyberspace. Acts of aggression are not permissible. And countries that are hurt by an attack have a right to respond in ways that are appropriate, proportional, and that minimize harm to innocent parties. We also support a set of additional principles that, if observed, can contribute substantially to conflict prevention and stability in time of peace. We view these as universal concepts that should be appealing to all responsible states, and they are already gaining traction," said Kerry" ...

New U.S. Ambassador to UN: U.S. Should Give Up a "Pinch of Sovereignty" Written by  Joe Wolverton, II, J.D.
http://www.thenewamerican.com/usnews/item/16218-new-us-ambassador-to-un-us-should-give-up-a-pinch-of-sovereignty

... "Responsibility to Protect (also known as Responsibility to Act) is a doctrine advanced by the United Nations and is predicated on the proposition that sovereignty is a privilege, not a right, and that if any regime in any nation violates the prevailing precepts of acceptable governance, then the international community is morally obligated to revoke that nation’s sovereignty and assume command and control of the offending country.

The three pillars of the United Nations-backed Responsibility to Protect are:

• A state has a responsibility to protect its population from mass atrocities.

• The international community has a responsibility to assist the state if it is unable to protect its population on its own.

• If the state fails to protect its citizens from mass atrocities and peaceful measures have failed, the international community has the responsibility to intervene through coercive measures such as economic sanctions.

Military intervention is considered the last resort.   ( LOL :-)

Records indicate that the Carr Center for Human Rights Policy, of which Samantha Power is a co-founder, participated in the advisory board of the International Commission on Intervention and State Sovereignty that was established by the Canadian government in September 2000 to address the growing problem of “mass atrocities.”

It was this “independent” commission that coined the term “responsibility to protect.” ...

... Bhahahaahahahahah! ...  we are soooo screwed ... ;-) ...

Trey Gowdy: Hillary Clinton wiped her server clean
By Lauren French  3/27/15 6:23 PM EDT  Updated 3/27/15 7:57 PM EDT

"Hillary Clinton wiped “clean” the private server housing emails from her tenure as secretary of state, the chairman of the House committee investigating the 2012 terrorist attacks in Benghazi said Friday.  “While it is not clear precisely when Secretary Clinton decided to permanently delete all emails from her server, it appears she made the decision after October 28, 2014, when the Department of State for the first time asked the Secretary to return her public record to the Department,” Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), chairman of the Select Committee on Benghazi" ...

WASHINGTON — Five large global banks have agreed to plead guilty to felony charges and collectively pay billions in record fines for conspiring together to manipulate the price of currencies traded in foreign-exchange markets, the Justice Department announced Wednesday...   while ... in another time and place ...

...  "the prosecutor has a long career built of some high profile cases but there is one case Lynch was involved in that few are talking about. Lynch was a part of Bill Clinton’s Whitewater probe defense team in 1992. In 1992, the Clintons came under fire for investing in a perennially failing Arkansas real estate company known as Whitewater Development, a venture heavily subsidized by Clinton friend Jim McDougal in an effort to soften the losses the Clintons were experiencing as investors. The probe was widened to look into the failure of the Madison Guaranty Savings and Loan to which it was connected. Eventually the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission won several convictions handing jail time to the McDougals as well as Arkansas Governor Jim Guy Tucker"...
