BBC ANTIQUES SERIES FLOG IT COMES TO THE ROYAL MARINES MUSEUM

Flog It, the popular BBC One antiques programme presented by Paul Martin, is set to visit Southsea on Thursday 10th November.

Flog It recently filmed its 1000th episode and the 16th series is currently being recorded. The show regularly achieves an audience of over two million viewers in its weekday afternoon slot.

The National Museum of the Royal Navy’s Royal Marines Museum on Eastney Esplanade will be hosting the Flog It valuation day. Rather like a treasure hunt, members of the public are invited to visit the museum with up to three antiques or collectables they might be interested in selling. Once valued the owner and a team of experts decide whether an object should go forward for auction. If the item is chosen for inclusion in the show it is included in an auction a few weeks later – hopefully when the auctioneers hammer falls its owners make a tidy sum. Everyone who goes along to the valuation day will receive a free appraisal of their items – even if their antiques are not chosen for filming or to go forward for auction.

MAYFLY MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVAL IN OLD PORTSMOUTH, MONDAY 2 MAY

For the third year running, music and art join forces on May bank holiday for a one-day pop-up festival in Portsmouth's oldest and funkiest venue, the Square Tower.

Following a hugely successful debut in 2014 and even more popular repeat last year, more than a dozen artists will be providing the colourful backdrop to a full programme of acoustic music in the Mayfly Festival.  There will also be a good helping of poetry from the Tongues and Grooves people.

Mayfly – because it lasts just one day – runs from midday to 8pm. Artwork will include paintings in oils and acrylics, photographs, woodcuts and linocuts.

MEGSON, SQUARE TOWER, OLD PORTSMOUTH
7th November 2015

Three times nominated in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and double winners of the  Spiral Earth Awards Megson draw heavily on their Teesside heritage to create a truly unique brand of folk music.

The husband & wife duo bring an infectious mix of heavenly vocals, lush harmonies and driving rhythmic guitars. Comprising Debs Hanna (Vocals, Whistle, Piano Accordion) and Stu Hanna (Guitar, Mandola, Banjo) Megson have gained fame on the British folk scene, not only for their arresting & intelligent songwriting, but for their exquisite musicianship and northern humour.
