My frustration grows non-stop when a driver of the Vietnam's most well-known bus company which I preferred talks non-stop behind the wheel. One of his hands controlling the wheel and the other holding his cell phone talking. 10 minutes, 20 minutes and 30 minutes have passed and he is still driving chatting over the phone, ignoring my loud request that "please stop talking and respect your passengers' safety."

I keep calling the company's hotline. No one answers. I leave a message to tell what is going on behind the wheel (see the photo). No reply. I call the hotline again 10 minutes after the driver resumes his lengthy phone call right after he finishes his drop-off and pick-up in the city. The line seems busy then. He only drops his phone after I call the ticketing operator in my hometown of Chau Doc. Soon after that, a terrible accident almost happens.

With only my backpack and Canon, I have ventured on my own into one of the most imposing destinations in Vietnam. For the first time, I have lived a very different life, a life of a very old-fashioned person with no facebook, no emails, no GPS and least phone calls and texts ever without any discomfort but peace in mind and joy in life.

First time coming to Gành Đá Dĩa (Da Dia Reef), a national landscape vestige in Phu Yen province, I was much liken to a scaredy-cat, too fearful of missing my footing to stand up and savor the picturesque gift Mother Nature offered to the Vietnam’s central coastal land. Two days later, coming back unexpectedly to it - as a tour guide to a foreigner – several things came to thrill me and that surprisingly transformed me into a very different person who enjoyed climbing over reefs and playing with big waves crashing from the East Sea. Why suddenly I broke my rule of being a lone wolf?

Check out the last part of my Phu Yen blog: Explore a paradise behind Da Dia Reef.

Introduction
I’m a writer, editor and translator from Vietnam. I just returned to Vietnam from Boston where I earned a Master’s degree in print and multimedia journalism from Emerson College. Following my 2012 summer internship at the GateHouse Media New England's Metro Unit, I  interned at The Christian Science Monitor where I worked in the online editorial team and, write science and technology stories.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in English from Cần Thơ University. Before starting my Master’s program under The Fulbright program, I worked for Cần Thơ Newspaper in the Mekong Delta,  where I co-ordinated, edited and wrote stories in world affairs, education, science and technology.

In addition to writing, I am interesting in  connecting with people, learning about the world, photographing the nature and blogging my life's experience. I’m a book, nature and pet lover. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, gardening, reading and caring for my seven Japanese poodles and one German shepherd.
