Education is more than a credential or a pathway to a job.

"What work do educators have to do to create the economic, political and ethical conditions necessary to endow young people with the capacities to think, question, doubt, imagine the unimaginable and defend education as essential for inspiring and energizing the people necessary for the existence of a robust democracy? In a world in which there is an increasing abandonment of egalitarian and democratic impulses, what will it take to educate young people to challenge authority?"

On 2015-08-15, I received my Professional Certificate in Special Education from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Effective 2015-09-01, I became a licensed teacher in Hawaiʻi, with licensing field "SPED - Mild/Moderate 6 - 12". The Praxis exams that I took make me "highly qualified" in Mathematics (6-12), General Science (6-12), and Elementary Education (K-6). I reside on the Waiʻanae Coast, a place where it's hard to get teachers, and after six years experience as a substitute and contract teacher, am ready to stay and make a difference.

reads: "anyone shy of the multimillionaires is just not safe."

Hala nō ia lā o ka pōloli.
A hungry day passes.
An expression of thankfulness that there was food for another day.

(M.K. Pukui, ‘Ōlelo No‘eau §428).

OCCUPIED! The APEC leaders had Hawaiian musician Makana to do background music for their dinner, and he changed the program to a protest song. Hulō e Makana!
