I have found lots of great information in inquest records http://www.shaunahicks.com.au/52-weeks-of-genealogical-records-in-2014-week-9-inquest-records/ and Kristin not only would there be an inquest file there should also be a murder file with lots of information. Definitely worth looking for.
An inquest is a legal enquiry held to establish the cause of death of a person. In Victoria the files of inquests  held between 1840 and 1985 are at the Public Records office of Victoria. Inquests were held when a person die...
