What do you do with 4 boys in the summer? Bring 'em to Northern Outdoors for a wonderful adventure getaway! That's exactly what Lifewith4Boys family blogger mom did. They enjoyed our resort, kayaking on the pond, a duckies float trip on the Lower Kennebec, hikes and each other. See what they did here...
Located right along the Kennebec River in The Forks, Maine, Northern Outdoors is a wilderness resort with plenty of rustic charm and outdoor adventure access to spare. With cabins, condos, Logdominiums, tents and a campground...

Last week Rob Nesbitt from WCSH 6 took his first trip on the Kennebec River. He'd NEVER been white water rafting before, and he grew up in Maine. He was amazed at how much fun it was, and appreciated our expert guides - check it out here. You don't need any experience to come rafting with us!
The Kennebec River offers 13 miles worth of rapids from start to finish that you can experience from inside a raft with Northern Outdoors.

Northern Outdoors is Maine's favorite adventure resort. We pioneered Maine rafting on the Kennebec, Dead, and Penobscot Rivers back in 1976. Since then, we've expanded in The Forks, Maine. We offer deluxe private log cabins, riverside campsites, a restaurant, brewery, swimming pool, and world class whitewater rafting and outdoor adventures.

Come experience this authentic, laid-back Maine atmosphere and highly skilled, outrageously fun, year round team of professional guides and staff.

We drove over 4 hours to get to Northern Outdoors (much more with traffic), and would do it again in a heartbeat! Our entire experience was outstanding. The cozy cabin was clean and comfortable and had charming furnishings. The lodge had very friendly and helpful staff and had every amenity to enhance a getaway including a pool, hot tub, arcade game area, pool tale, corn hole area, and large patio. The in-house brewery has a fabulous selection and the beers very delicious. The menu was equally unique and appealing and the food we got was incredible; we even asked to purchase some of their original wing/dipping sauces which sadly are not available for retail sale yet. In the later evening hours they had a fun band in the lodge. We went on a whitewater rafting excursion, and it was our first time with this experience. I cannot possible say enough about what a great time we had! The logistics were very well communicated and organized, the guides and other staff were all energetic, fun, and completely delightful (especially our guide, Tony). Every part of the adventure couldn't have been better. They explained every step to us and gave us all of the right tips and equipment to prepare us for a safe and fun experience. We had the perfect combination of exciting rapids and calm floating on the river and even stopped to see a gorgeous waterfall. They prepared us a hot and fresh grilled lunch on the side of the river which was outstanding and the process was impressively efficient. When we returned to the lodge they showed a very entertaining slideshow and video of the day. I would and will recommend Northern Outdoors for years to come, and we will plan another visit as soon as possible.

Well, this was the 7th time that my wife and I rafted with Northern Outdoors, and the 5th time that we rafted the Penobscot, and as usual, we had a blast! We had a crowd of 14 people (some return rafters, some newbies...) and everyone had a great time, and are looking forward to next year's trip. Great job by guides Term and Todd too! This was the 4th year in a row that Term was our guide. We ask for him every year and we will be requesting him and Todd for next year as well. As long as the Mayans are wrong, we'll be back, and hopefully we'll bring more people! ;) Scott W Westboro, Massachusetts Rating: 5 *****

What a great trip we had. Meeting people from various states and countries. Truly amazing day for us and the kids. Staff is great (especially our guide Chad). This is a family trip that all ages can enjoy. There are not to many family vacations that our kids ages 8 to 18 can all enjoy but this is definately one of them. This is geared to any age. Outstanding food and beer! It doesn't look like much from the outside, but inside is a spacious wood beer hall. Apparently they do outdoor sports and accommodation too

Thanks for your visit and nice comments on our pub, Justin. In addition to the adventure resort and Kennebec River Brewery onsite, we offer white water rafting on the Kennebec, Dead, and Penobscot Rivers, plus fishing, hiking and more from May till October, then start up with snowmobiling right after Christmas. And we're a Maine hunting lodge in November. Hope to see you back here again!

Went rafting the first time last year and it was with Northern. Had an amazing time, from the rafting, to the mid- trip lunch on the river, to the hilarious slide show review at the end. I can't wait until a few weeks from now for my 2nd go at it. Thanks to my guide Kim Lyman for showing us a great time.

I have been coming to Northern Outdoors for years. And out of them all this time was the best. Our cabin on the river was very comfortable and fun to stay at. Our guide Megan was great and fun to be in her raft for the day. You don't need to change anything everything was perfect. I will be back next year. See you then.
