A Simple Supers Solution?

I've seen a spate of discussions on what's the best implementation of supers for Fate Core. Now there are so many options: Daring Comics, Venture City, Wearing the Cape, Four-Color FAE, and more.

I'm not really much of a supers guy, but I'd play one. The one that most appeals to me is probably Four-Color FAE because of the elegance and simplicity. Simply define what powers are justified within your aspects, giving some context for possible invokes and compels. Cool.

A thought just occurred to me regarding something else that can lend a lot of support in a sort of minimal way. Something that leans on the existing rules without a lot of extra fuss and can be used in any of these supers hacks: allowing powers to justify when success at a cost can be on or off the table. This could be a good way of simply scaling when two characters of unequal power sets are in contest.

Success at a cost is one of those parts of the rules that is not extremely clear about what sets it up, when it may be appropriate or not, and who says when it's an option or not. Seems there's something to play with there.

Thoughts?

Gods and Monsters

...in particular, Monsters. Damn, this is such an evocative and beautiful World. There's so much that's dripping with awesomesauce. I only wish there were a few more guidelines for how to do Monsters.

In the example Monsters, I see stress boxes, and next to them, more stress boxes in parentheses. This is never explained. Do these examples have six stress boxes, or is that something else, like power points? Looking to get clearer understanding.

Thanks in advance!

A new interesting Fate world needs funding! Check it out...
I have been hinting at this new project for a while now. Check it out. If you like it share it around to your friends. If you don't, share it with your enemies.

Its a game about those who travel between two worlds and seek to either protect the world from Armageddon, or encourage its approach.

Posting here too...I know there's love for World of Dungeons here. Thursday regular group starting this Thursday at 3:45 Pacific. Still room for one or two more.

This will be on Hangouts. Post with your interest!
Howdy! This isn't strictly a Lampblack related invite, but there's three of us starting up a Google Hangouts based game using John Harper's World of Dungeons hack for Dungeon World, and we're looking for a few more players. 3:45 - 6:00 pm Pacific time on Thursdays. Give a shout if you're interested!

Just remembered about this community. Hey, y’all! We are three gamers wanting to give an honest go of World of Dungeons bi-weekly on Thursdays from 3:45 to 6:15 pm Pacific on Hangouts.

The first will take place Thursday, October 19. It’ll be WoDu mostly by the rules modded as we go. I’ll be going for a low-level adventurers get caught up in epic adventure and become movers and shakers vibe (think vaguely Dragonlance in tone, but we’ll be using the excellent list of names and places on the back pages for inspiration).

We’ll probably mod the experience system to suit heroic action rather than treasure collecting, as well as some sort of harm system so that hit points are a resource rather than a measurement of life and death (I don’t want to kill the characters).

Two more players would be awesome! Lots of collaboration and high adventure. Thanks in advance!

World of Dungeons Thursdays

I'd like to start a campaign using John Harper's brilliant World of Dungeons minimalist hack on the popular and successful Dungeon World. Games will be roughly bi-weekly (assuming it goes well) on Google Hangouts, the first launching this Thursday, October 12 at 4 pm, PST. Looking for 3-5 players familiar with story games and interested in emulating a 70's fantasy gaming experience with modern story-game sensibilities.

For a fantastic AP taste, google "World of Dungeons" and "Dungeon Girls" for an amazing father, daughter & neighbor girls experience.

Sessions will be 2 - 2.5 hours each.
