This is an interesting article. The analysis on how so much of the food we eat in the UK is produced is exactly why we put a lot of effort into telling our customers where we source our products from and how it is fed and raised. #KnowWhereYourFoodComesFrom

Morley Butchers have been recognised as the Best Butchers in London by Slow Food London.

"We are proud and delighted to have been awarded " Best Butchers in London " in the Slow Food London Awards. A big thank you to all of our customers for their support and enthusiasm."  Andrew Beresford - Owner, Morley Butchers

 The  Slow Food London Awards

This summer Londoners have been voting in the annual Slow Food London Awards. They were asked to nominate their favourite local shops and food heroes to be recognised as the very best in the capital. The awards which had an open nomination period of a five weeks, is the only award scheme which recognises retailers that put quality sourcing at the heart of their business. These awards do not give the public a shortlist to choose from – making the awards the true consumer award for quality food.

Best Butchers in London

These awards were created by Slow Food London in 2013 to support and highlight the growing number of quality food retailers and producers within London which are the polar opposite of the discount and big four supermarkets. In their awards statement slow food london said "The Best Butchers in London award to Morley’s recognises excellence in their butchery, time-honed skills, as well as their impressive range of game and quality meat."

"Slow Food London is delighted to see Morley Butchers recognised as Slow Food London Awards Best Butchers in London Winner 2014. Trading over 120 years it's the sort of butchers we all wish were at the end of our road, with a range of quality meat, poultry and game, as well as dry-cured gammon made on the premises from free range Blythburgh Pork. Morley Butchers are cheerleaders for quality and provenance, but still an affordable local butcher, we wish them every continued success and encourage those who have yet to visit to make a trip to Crouch End to see them" Shane Holland - Chairman, Slow Food London

About Slow Food

Slow Food is categorised by Good, Clean and Fair – that is food which is good quality, produced in a sustainable way which doesn't damage the environment and for which both the producer and the consumer get a fair price.

Slow Food is an idea, a way of living and a way of eating. It is a global, grassroots movement with thousands of members that links the pleasure of food with a commitment to community and the environment.

A non-profit member-supported association, Slow Food was founded in 1989 to counter the rise of fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and people's dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world.

Slow Food London is a group of committed volunteers. They campaign and raise awareness about good, clean and fair food. People in the UK are increasingly aware of the social, economic and environmental impact of our daily food choices. They work to bring people together to create change through:

school and food education initiatives
the promotion of local and regional foods
projects to safeguard the biodiversity of the United Kingdom
Slow Food London also runs an Approved scheme that provides a directory of places which sell and/or support Slow Food principles - whether retail shops, market stalls, restaurants or on on-line.
