This is a fundraiser for a mother who has been jailed after leaving her kids in the care while at a job interview. She says she had no where else to put her kids. While of course it is not safe to leave young children by themselves in the car, this family needs help, not punishment. There's a reason we see cases like this over and over. It's not because some moms are just bad and don't care if their kids die. It's because poverty removes your options. Being overwhelmed and tired and under stress removes your ability to make clear judgments. Don't punish the victims; change the system. Donate to this woman and her family, share her story everywhere, keep her in mind and watch to make sure she is released and reunited with her family.

My daughter told me that her Human Geo teacher said that America is a highly advanced Country and I just shook my head.

This mom found another mom asleep at an indoor playground while her kids ran around unsupervised. Instead of criticizing, or posting snarky online comments and pictures, she watched the woman's children for over an hour so she could keep sleeping. This is what we need.

"My house is messy--and I don't care." She even includes a picture to prove it! This is along the lines of the project I'm planning with pictures and/or video from my own home and others.

This is very interesting in light of what I've been saying about the need for parents to be able to blend family and work together when it suits their needs. This research suggests that trying to do both at once presents conflict in parents' minds that may rob both parenting and earning of meaning. What could the solution be? To make sure that even those who need to work while taking care of family also have time for family and nothing else?

"They say there’s a war on Christmas, because some want to take Christ out of it. I see war every time someone attaches Christ’s name to this god-awful scramble for more things while so many people go hungry, under-clothed, under-educated.

I don't love Christmas. I'd love to skip right over it."

It's high time I put my money where my mouth is and show everyone that it really is okay to have a less than perfect home by sharing pictures of mine. Introducing the Museum of Family Art! That cluttered fireplace mantle of yours isn't just a mess; it's art created by your family's daily life. Head to my blog for a fun "installment" and a call for submissions. The more people who get in on this, the more entertaining and impactful it will be.

This is my everyday day. My unflattering chore hair. My pile of washed laundry that may get worn before it gets put away. My bed. Probably no one's made it in a week. My baggy work-stained shirt pl...

To moms with Postpartum Depression, anxiety, or OCD, but really this applies to anyone suffering mental illness or even just feeling crappy:

"our feelings while we battle maternal mental illness do not necessarily reflect the truth of who we are or how we are. Listen to me, and listen carefully: Your negative feelings do not define you. You do not have to be what and how you feel."

Flexibility for family care is needed just as badly--if not more--in part-time and shift work as it is in the more prestigious jobs that the discussion usually centers on.
