Come check out my updates and see what an hour's worth of work looks like for me right now...in sprinkles! I've also shared some pictures of my most popular pieces and more on how the equipment I'm buying with donations is going to turn what is currently slow work into a source of income for my family.
Do you like pizza and ice cream? How about giant, huggable pizza and ice cream? Then help me take my craft business to the next level and make it a source of real income for my family! Six years ago, I sewed my first food-shaped pillow, and since then they've become popular enough that I can't ke...

This is a fundraiser for a mother who has been jailed after leaving her kids in the care while at a job interview. She says she had no where else to put her kids. While of course it is not safe to leave young children by themselves in the car, this family needs help, not punishment. There's a reason we see cases like this over and over. It's not because some moms are just bad and don't care if their kids die. It's because poverty removes your options. Being overwhelmed and tired and under stress removes your ability to make clear judgments. Don't punish the victims; change the system. Donate to this woman and her family, share her story everywhere, keep her in mind and watch to make sure she is released and reunited with her family.
Valley mother Shanesha Taylor is facing charges of child abuse after allegedly leaving her two young children in a hot car while she went for a job interview.

My daughter told me that her Human Geo teacher said that America is a highly advanced Country and I just shook my head.

This mom found another mom asleep at an indoor playground while her kids ran around unsupervised. Instead of criticizing, or posting snarky online comments and pictures, she watched the woman's children for over an hour so she could keep sleeping. This is what we need.

The Mommy Wars are over. Well, they could be, they would be, if we just took the bright cheery attitude Tara Jean did when she swooped in and helped a Mom.

"My house is messy--and I don't care." She even includes a picture to prove it! This is along the lines of the project I'm planning with pictures and/or video from my own home and others.

It's totally true that I could come home from work and get everything off the counter and table (again) and clean the bathrooms (again) and yell at the kids (again) to pick up all their stuff, but, well, I'd rather not....

This is very interesting in light of what I've been saying about the need for parents to be able to blend family and work together when it suits their needs. This research suggests that trying to do both at once presents conflict in parents' minds that may rob both parenting and earning of meaning. What could the solution be? To make sure that even those who need to work while taking care of family also have time for family and nothing else?

"They say there’s a war on Christmas, because some want to take Christ out of it. I see war every time someone attaches Christ’s name to this god-awful scramble for more things while so many people go hungry, under-clothed, under-educated.

I don't love Christmas. I'd love to skip right over it."

I'd love to love Christmas again. As a kid I'd play around the tree for hours. Impressions of ivory twinkle lights glinting off my mother's extensive collection of antique colored glass ornaments--and of accidentally smashing several--are among the most potent of my childhood. The ...

I'm trying to upgrade my pillow business with a die cutting machine and a good sewing machine. Right now things move too slowly to meet demand or make a sizable profit, and all that cutting by hand is physically straining. I'm sure I can sell as many as I can make, so I'm aiming to buy equipment that will let me make more!

It's high time I put my money where my mouth is and show everyone that it really is okay to have a less than perfect home by sharing pictures of mine. Introducing the Museum of Family Art! That cluttered fireplace mantle of yours isn't just a mess; it's art created by your family's daily life. Head to my blog for a fun "installment" and a call for submissions. The more people who get in on this, the more entertaining and impactful it will be.

This is my everyday day. My unflattering chore hair. My pile of washed laundry that may get worn before it gets put away. My bed. Probably no one's made it in a week. My baggy work-stained shirt pl...

To moms with Postpartum Depression, anxiety, or OCD, but really this applies to anyone suffering mental illness or even just feeling crappy:

"our feelings while we battle maternal mental illness do not necessarily reflect the truth of who we are or how we are. Listen to me, and listen carefully: Your negative feelings do not define you. You do not have to be what and how you feel."

The Onion brings home some important points about the accessibility of healthy, affordable food for working families, especially single parents.

YOUNGSTOWN, OH—Despite the release of a new documentary exposing the disturbing practices and adverse health effects associated with the fast food industry, impoverished single mother of three Karen Ford told reporters Thursday that the revelations ...

Flexibility for family care is needed just as badly--if not more--in part-time and shift work as it is in the more prestigious jobs that the discussion usually centers on.

Making it easier to trade shifts is one way bosses can help low-wage workers find work-life balance.

Body image and health: 10 healthy reasons for working out. (Reasons you'd feel okay telling your daughter. Hint: none of them involves fitting into "that dress")

http://wellfesto.com/2013/11/19/10-things-i-want-my-daughter-to-know-about-working-out/
Mid-way through a recent group exercise class, the teacher lost me.  She didn’t lose me because of some complicated step sequence or insanely long set of burpees; I mentally checked out because of ...
