The premise of this novel is outstanding: ex-African warlord makes his way to Canada and gets enmeshed in national politics, working in partnership with a local woman politician of low-talent and high-ambition. Hijinks ensue. I did, however, find myself wishing that the plot of the book -- which tracks their mutual involvement, arrival in Ottawa, and eventual mishaps in Africa -- was the plot of Chapter 1, and we could go on from there. Also, like many satires, the book feels a little cold, based as it is on two cold-hearted people using one another to get what they want.
