The Segura Arts Studio is pleased to announce that nationally known artist Vincent Valdez will be creating a new print in the studio this week.  At the end of this message are several links that Vincent provided to short videos and articles about his work.  While in town, he will be giving a community talk on Saturday, May 17th at 2:00 p.m. at the Western Branch of the St. Joseph County Public Library located at 611 Lombardy Dr., South Bend, IN 46619 (574-282-4639).

In our first year of production at the University of Notre Dame we have worked with 2013 MacArthur fellow Carrie Mae Weems, and also Claudio Dicochea, Enrique Chagoya, and Claudia Bernardi.

To learn more about what is happening in the studio, and to see the new prints, please visit our website.

Come check out the 2014 MFA Student Readings with: Paul Cunningham, Jessie Newman, Dev Varma & Rachel Zavecz Apr 16 at Crossroads Gallery for Contemporary Art, 1045 W Washington St. South Bend.

Paul Cunningham is into Derrida and has heard of Wittgenstein, and his poetry shows it.

Jessie Newman’s fiction, while magically worded, is probably just about her kickboxing withdrawals.

Dev Varma feels, like his fiction, always a bit bloated, like he had one too many french fries. His fiction consists of him eating french fries.

Rachel Zavecz writes poems with lots of :)’s and (*__*)’s that make people go like :O.

CROSSROADS GALLERY FOR CONTEMPORARY ART PRESENTS
INMIGRATION: BEYOND BORDERS, A VISUAL JOURNEY

South Bend, Indiana – February 24, 2014 – The Crossroads Gallery for Contemporary Art presents INMigration:  Beyond Borders, a Visual Journey

INMigration: Beyond Borders, a Visual Journey opens March 3rd at the Crossroads Gallery for Contemporary Art.  The exhibition runs through April 25, 2014.

Featuring artworks by various artists, INMigration centers on the themes of immigration, migration, and faith.  The exhibition aims to present the viewer with the impact of the action and results of emigrating to the United States, drawing on perspectives from both sides of the Mexican border.  The title of the exhibition itself is a play on the word immigration and the phrase “in migration.”

The journey is not easy, nor is it simple and the outcome is not always ideal.  These images express not only the act of migrating, but also the emotions that come from doing so. Faith plays a central role in the immigration process. Believing that something better lies ahead without certainty of that fact and still embarking on the journey is an act of faith.

All works are on loan from the personal collection of Gilberto Cárdenas as curated by Alex Schaufele.

Please join us for the reception at the Crossroads Gallery on March 13th from 5-7 PM.

Crossroads Gallery is located on the main floor of the Notre Dame Center for Arts and Culture at 1045 West Washington Street in South Bend.
