Try chaturanga'ing in front of a mirror and take note. Are your shoulders rolling forward? You may have shoulder problems in your future unless you clean up your form. Watch the video for how.
When your form gets sloppy, try it with your knees on the mat. I promise it's not a pussy pose, and I do it all the time in classes that are loaded with chaturangas.

There are times in your life when kinky is good, and then there are backbends.
When you are backbending in your yoga practice you want to take the kinks out of your hose (errr spine) because not only does spinal compression prevent you from getting a deep backbend, it also feels pretty gross.
