Located not too far from the heart of Dupont Circle, Obelisk is a true treasure find in Washington. A five-course Italian tasting menu reveals fantastic dishes with artistic performances. The parade of antipasti, pastas, and desserts makes this restaurant one of the most authentic, elegant, and flavorful in DC. The menu changes daily, but the top notch attentive service and dressy casual romantic intimate nature of the restaurant are forever the same. Located in a brownstone, the restaurant seems almost residential with close and cozy tables and it feels like you're inside someone's tasteful living room. There is limited seating so definitely make reservations. Unlike other upscale restaurants with five course meals that seem more like one course meals, Obelisk's five courses are surprisingly very, very filling. The antipasti alone feels like an entire dinner, so I recommend you pace yourself when eating. Pastas are the restaurant's strength, but the meat and fish dishes are just as impressive. Obelisk is prix-fixe at $75 and there is a wine pairing option. The restaurant has been around for 26 years and has been consistently known as DC's top Italian place for more than two decades, an impressive feat in the ever-changing culinary world. I came here with my boyfriend and close friends to celebrate his birthday and everyone loved the food, the drinks, and the atmosphere. It was such a perfect evening and we were all stuffed afterwards!

I have eaten at lots of really amazing places in DC, but I have to say, I did not find my meal (or the service) at Obelisk very memorable. The service was below par and way too informal. The dishes were too salty at times, including the burrata (which was too salty by burrata standards). For all of the hype, I wasn't really convinced. I'd advise folks interested in well made Italian food to make the trek to Shaw to the new location of Dino.

In a brownstone that is simple in setting but extraordinary in food. It has a modern bistro feel and the highest quality food. How is it possible that Eola is across the street and both serve food as good as it can get. NO website, but they put all the energy into the food. You can't miss here.

The best food I've ever had. From the cheeses to the main course and to the dessert. Everything was well seasoned and the service was impeccable. As a foodie, I was highly impressed and I will be back for more.

Obelisk gets one of my coveted "Best Evers" because it might be the best meal in DC. It's a fixed price meal and they just keep bringing you small plates of food until your main course, which you pick from a menu. You need to call right at 10am exactly a month before the night you want to go to ensure you can get a reservation.
