"Dear Abby"
So... A couple of guys walk into the bar. One of them is a
Software Engineer and the other is a Log Builder. They pass a bit of small talk
back and forth and discover they have quite a few interests in common.  A couple of beers later the software guy says ...

The inspiration came on Christmas Eve. After a month of half baked ideas resulting in half hearted attempts at our annual handcrafted Christmas card - The Log Builder's Wife decided that she would break with tradition and create a short "hand-crafted" video this year. Merry Christmas and a Happy 2017 to all.

Can't stop smiling...my Mum appeared on the evening news! This little clip really captures the independant, joy loving spirit that we so love about Robin Taylor Boys!

The Rambling Ranch House - Nicola Valley BC. Curved Glue-Laminations, creative custom metal details, a project that was less than an hour from home...AND colloborating with our esteemed colleague Dai Ona on this timber frame project. Nicola LogWorks undertook the hand-cutting and laminations - DaiZen Joinery produced the bulk and balance of the project on their CNC machine.
Best thing about this project - the synergy and creative expressions that occur when John Boys and Dai Ona work together!

We really enjoyed building the post and beam structures for John Turchin's Eagles Nest community in North Carolina. Much of our work was designed by Murray Arnott Design. Here is a finished photo of our work. (Note the round with square - a Nicola LogWorks signature)
Interior of a round log post and beam home I designed in North Carolina, built by Nicola Log Works.

Vanishing Edge Pool Home - Kelowna BC. A video about the process of building this log post and beam home designed by Tom Hahney of Designing Change.

For us - this log post and beam home was all about the log work, the story behind accessing logs that would meet the tight specifications, the joinery, and the plan. For the customer though, the design revolved around the vanishing edge pool; the land, the view, the plan and the logwork all were governed by this primary design feature.

Apex Ski Area Dovetail Log Home. Our customers asked Nicola LogWorks to come up with a stair feature for this log home. I love the softer organic character of the round logs adjacent to the squared dovetail log work.

Apex Ski Area: We really enjoyed doing the dovetail log work for these customers who rolled up their sleeves and did a LOT of the non log work themselves including the stone facing on the sun room. Beautiful.

One of our favourite log homes; unusual in that we built it using massive Ponderosa Pine which at the time was under threat of decimation by the pine beetle. We call this project "Homage to the Ponderosa". The home was built using logs from the owners' site - the wood so massive that it only took 3 rounds of log work to reach plate height.
