The Health Data Collaborative and its partner organizations, in response to the Measurement and Accountability for Health (MA4H) Summit Call to Action, are developing standardized approaches to improving health data used for planning in developing countries.

New tools from MEASURE Evaluation (USAID-funded M&E Technical Assistance Project) are contributing to these standard approaches.
• The Routine Health Information System Rapid Assessment Tool (RHIS RAT) aims to identify gaps in local RHIS prior to strategic planning efforts so that weaknesses are identified and addressed in strategic planning.

• The Data Quality Review (DQR) is a holistic approach to assessing data quality in RHIS or health program data systems which meets the needs of all stakeholders while reducing cost and burden on the health workforce.

• The Performance of Routine Information System Management Tool (PRISM) evaluates the performance of RHIS in terms of data quality and use, organizational environment, and management capacity to produce and use quality information on coverage and quality of health system interventions.

When used together at the appropriate stages of health system planning, these assessment tools fill gaps and improve quality of health system monitoring, evaluation and planning.

Electronic Health Records (EHR) are increasingly being used in clinical practice. The individual professional or organisation collect lots of managerial and clinical data but do we know what we have? How good is the data? Are they fit for purpose? What are the ethical and legal issues we need to consider when we decide to use the data for other than clinical purposes such as research? What are the added challenges and issues we need to address if we wish to share EHR data to do multicentre research?

Attend our 76th AeHIN Hour on February 8, 16:00 Manila time with Professor Siaw Teng Liaw to find out the answers!

In this webinar Prof. Teng will highlight the challenges with a case study from the UNSW electronic practice based research network. Register now to save your slot!

There is a variety of tools related to health workforce information and they have distinct roles to play.

A software can serve as a directory; a primary system to manage health workforce information. Examples of this are iHRIS Manage, iHRIS Qualify and iHRIS Train.

A software can also serve as a Health Worker Registry (HWR) that collates and integrates all of the data from these various directory applications according to the data governance defined for the country or jurisdiction.

If you want to learn more about them, start your February with us as we bring you our webinar on Health Worker Directories and Registries with PATH Deputy Director for Global Goods Dr. Carl Leitner.

In this webinar Dr. Leitner will discuss the OpenHIE approach to integrate various types of directories of health worker information into a standards-compliant Health Worker Registry which can be used with an Health Information Exchange.

Join us on February 1, 20:00 Manila time!

In this webinar, Ms. Alice Liu will dive more deeply into the key decision factors to consider when deciding whether to purchase a health information system, build one "from scratch", or outsource to a third party (e.g. a "software as a service" provider).

By attending this webinar, participants will be able to more objectively and methodically identify the factors that are most significant for their projects and in their environment, weigh the factors against each other, and make a decision.
