Dali, a small ex-hippie haven of a town in Yunnan, China, has a great mountain trek with great vistas of the surrounding valley. The trek was easy: flat with cable cars on both ends. Being the intrepid travelers that we are, we made our lives harder, of course. Here's our experience. My article published on DestinationDali.com.

The landscape and the structures in Zhongdian, or Shangri-la as the tourist brouches say, seem barren and desolate, but oddly enough not at all lifeless.
