Anybody in #LNK have a thermal imaging sensor (heat-sensing camera) that I can borrow or rent for a couple days? The closest commercial rental I can find is in Omaha. Nobody in Lincoln sells them (in stock), either.

Our family drove two hours from our home in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Grand Island because the Lincoln area had too much cloud cover. We arrived in Grand Island and got settled in at a Walmart parking lot about 35 minutes before totality. The skies were wonderfully clear, and we had a great time.

Most of these eclipse photos were shot with my Canon 7Dmk2, 70-200mm lens, 2x TC, and 1.4x TC. The eclipse photos at the very end were taken with my cell phone held up to the viewfinder of my 8" Dobsonian telescope. You can also see a video of our reaction to totality at:

After far too many hours chasing wild geese, I finally fixed another Windows problem tonight.

We're looking for a horse or two.

Something mild-mannered and middle-aged. Must be located in southeast Nebraska. Anybody know of one being sold by a reliable, trustworthy seller?

I had the great pleasure of joining the Brothers Ringsmuth on the latest episode of their monthly Camera Dads podcast. The subject of the day was photographing kids sports and other active activities (specifically, those of your own kids)--something of which I've done more than my fair share. You can watch the 52-minute video or listen to the audio stream at http://www.CameraDads.com

As is our annual custom, my daughter (now 15) and I spent last weekend out in central Nebraska photographing the Sandhill Crane migration. We had beautiful weather, and came home with fun memories & good photos. The attached album contains a few of the latter.

FYI, I'm now in love with Canon's 400mm f/2.8 lens.

It's been a while since I got a fun email regarding my jedi.com domain, which contains mostly Jeep info. I just now got this email from a user at the Clark County (Nevada) School District:

"HEY! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? THIS IS NOT STAR WARS! I WILL SUE YOU!! SEE YOU IN COURT!"

Somebody please remind me why it is that we allow kids on the Internet.

Update: an hour later, he emailed back (in lower-case) to offer that he would not sue me if I got him a photo of the real Obi-Wan Kanobi[sic]. My original question still stands.

For future reference, I will forever regret hiring Mark's Plumbing in Lincoln to bury the new pipe to my barn. They're difficult to schedule, difficult to work with, don't care much about customer service, and didn't do the entire job that they promised to do. Run away!

This is the first time lapse I shot with my new Xiaomi Yi action camera. It was pointed off my back deck as a storm rolled through on Friday night. Images were taken every 5 seconds and played back at 10 fps, for a 50x speed-up. The color balance is all over the place; I hope that's due to the lightning & clouds, and won't be a problem when shooting in normal conditions.
