My wife and I had our wedding reception up stairs in there penthouse. The food for that event was incredible! By far the best meal I have ever had at a wedding! We also frequent the downstairs restaurant and we have never had anything there that was not amazing! The staff is very accommodating as is the owner. My wife and I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious meal, great service and a good value for your money. If you're considering a function in the penthouse upstairs you will not be disappointed by the view, service or food.

Very nice place/decor, but absolutely horrible food!! Decided to try Taste via a Groupon I came acrossed, as we are always looking for new places for our 'date night' out instead of our 'same olds'. Not sure if it was the 'Groupon' treatment we received or what. Sadly we can say we will never be returning to Taste nor will recommend it to any friends or colleagues. When I called to make the reservations, the girl on the phone took my information and then also inquired if I would be using a Groupon or Living Social deal. Why did she need to know this? That should have been my first alarm. Upon being seated, the hostess again asks if we are using a Groupon?! Again I indicate we are, and she says okay and walks away. While waiting for our waitress, notice my husband's water glass has a small amount of water already in it & lipstick on the rim. Okay..slight oversight (somehow i guess, but things happen), so we request a fresh glass from the gentleman filling the water glasses and show him the one from our table. When our waitress arrives, I immediately inform her that I have a Groupon and if there are any restrictions on the wines or dinners included (as I would with any coupon..always check prior to ordering & let your waiter/waitress know you have one). Is this not the one person I need to notify of the Groupon...why everyone else prior?! Odd Cheeses on the cheeseboard app was good but the crostinis were very definitely very stale. Salmon dinner was not fully cooked (had to request it to be cooked further), and when waitress returned with it she failed to tell me the plate was also placed into the oven with it therefore I slightly burned my fingers. The taste = okay, nothing great. The Monkfish was very bland, no flavor at all. Overall, we were very unimpressed and would not recommend this restaurant. Maybe if you don't use a Groupon, the experience might be different (*I did notice other table had bread baskets, were we supposed to recieve one with our meals?)

I have now visited Taste twice and that's plenty. I first went awhile back during Restaurant week. The food was very good but not great compared to other long established restaurants in the area. The service that night was extremely poor. I associated it with the prefix restaurant week menu which is substantially lower then the average $50 per person the wait staff would expect from any given table. That reason however is not a good reason to be completely inattentive from a quality experienced wait staff. I did want to return to try there actual menu with hopes of better service. I recently came across a good deal on a groupon so the return visit a year later was in store. The service was a little better. There was a lengthy 5 minute wait for the seater to attend to her station. The beginning food was good not excellent. The tempura avocado tacos were in serious need of seasoning. The beet salad was very good. The wait staff was much better than last time but the fact that at 630pm the place had only 10 tables filled at most. When the main order arrived my wifes duck was actually excellent however my ribeye (ordered medium rare) was perfectly well done. I sent it back to the kitchen since it was obviously not in the vicinity of what I orders. The same steak was then returned 10 minutes later cold with the waiter (looking awkward and dejected) was trying to explain to me that under the chefs light its a perfect medium rare and if i would still eat it. I said I tried it and it was most certainly no medium rare or even remotely close to it. I could tell by touching it before I even originally cut into it i was going to be overcooked. (For the record we were outside dining in natural lighting what better lighting could you ask for) The waiter then argued with me saying they had no more ribeyes (a regular menu item in an empty restaurant at 630pm on a saturday night is BS) I then asked for a strip then as the original steak was overdone and now cold. After he went to take and order across the patio which order a ribeye from the menu with no issue. In the return, 15 minutes later, was a completely unseasoned sliced sirloin, which let all the juices out leaving it dry, with the now mushy/cold vegetables from my original plate. underneath it (heck it might have been the same plate. How does this happen? Well since the original ribeye was 2/3 for the cost of the groupon they didn't wish to waste the money cooking another one nor the other cut I requesting instead on their own deciding to find the smallest cheapest cut they had around. From my observation they are offering the groupon to get people in the door. When I left at 745pm the restaurant was seemed less full then when I arrived. Being that novice chef Paul Ozimek must have a huge ego problem and can't manage to carry the blame for an improperly cooked cut of meat by his kitchen staff is pathetic. I have never once seen a waiter have to return to a table with a dish sent back trying to say no. It's completely unprofessional. With the great options in the Captial Region this place will never make its way to the top again. I'd be surprised if they are even here a year or two from now if this is how they operate on a regular basis.

Taste is awesome! Loved it! The food was great the drinks were even better and the bartender was so nice! Terry really catered with our every need. My friend has a gluten allergy and taste was able to cater to her every need as they specialize in gluten free foods! I highly recommend taste for a girls night on the town!

Went there for lunch on Thursday. Nice Place, great decor. The server was terrible. White guy with black hair in his mid 30's. He took at least 10 minutes to take our order, and brough our food out luke-warm at best 35 minutes later. I have an hour for lunch if I am lucky, and told him this up front. The sweet potato fries would have been good if they were still hot, but the Pastrami Salmon was really fishy tasting and way too pungent. My girlfriend order the burger without the hot pepers, and of course burned her mouth on the peppers that were still there after the first bite. Maybe dinner is different, or I got the only bad server, but I am not going back.

One of my favorite things about Taste is the atmosphere. While it's an upscale restaurant it doesn't feel stuffy. It's a calm, cool place to sit with the girls, have some fun cocktails and talk! It's such a great place all year around, but during the summer it's awesome to have a place to sit outside and relax after work with live music and of course one of Taste's many amazing cocktails. There's so many places to wine and dine in Albany but between the food and drink selections, the great service and personable employees Taste has something that many restaurants do not. it's a combination of the right location, the menu and the atmosphere that truly makes this a dining experience Taste is a unique upscale restaurant that draws a classy crowd but still maintains a casual feeling atmosphere. I can enjoy the perks of a nice place while still being able to "let loose," and unwind from a long day.
