Landmark serving sausage & BBQ without sauce or forks in a sprawling, cafeterialike setting.- Google
"I usually go for the brisket ("moist") and pork ribs and am never disappointed."
"I love the jalapeño sausage, I always buy a case to take home."

Great place for BBQ! Brisket is ultra moist, and sausage is super awesome and tasty. One star went away for the bizarre policies. No forks seems okay for BBQ, but when you realize you get a spoon and a knife for things that need forks, like green beans, potato salad, and pickles in a bag, you start to realize the bizarre nature of the policy. Meat honestly doesn't need bbq sauce cause its so tasty, but you can't have any anyway. If those are a deal breaker, go to one of the other delicious places in Lockhart... the fork thing might be for me.

I just did the $200 hamburger flight over from Houston in a small aircraft to eat for the second time at Kreuz in Lockhart,TX, and that stuff is delicious!!! It was a slow afternoon , about 4pm and the main dining room is air conditioned with clean tables and chairs. I have read comments about staff, but nobody was rude or slow to ring me up. It would be nice to have a good ole Southern howdy, but I came for the brisket and sausage, not for Southern charm, I have plenty of that ,and maybe, I can rub it off on somebody else along the way!

Spectacular barbecue. No pretense; just Texas barbecue at its absolute best. Roy, the pitmaster, is as humble as hospitable as they come. Road trip worthy.

I managed 8 classic Central Texas joints in 4 days: Franklin, Louie Mueller, Cranky Franks, Smittys, Blacks, Kreuz, City Market, and Harmons. Kruez landed at 6th place on the list overall. The brisket was pretty dry and needed salt in the worse way. Both original and jalapeno/cheese sausages were okay, but lacked some serious punch that you'd expect. The pork ribs were also dry, with a decent quality rub. The staff gives the overall impression that they could care less and that somehow the reputation and history will save the day. It didn't. Overall rankings: 1st place: Franklin Barbecue, Austin 2nd place: Cranky Franks, Fredericksburg 3rd place: Harmons, Cibolo 4th place: Blacks, Lockhart 5th place: Louie Mueller, Taylor 6th place: Kreuz, Lockhart 7th place: Smittys, Lockhart 8th place: City Market, Luling

The staff are rude and the atmosphere is belligerent (just read the signs) not to mention no air conditioning. While the sausage and brisket can be good, it isn't consistently good. You'd think this place would be packed because it is a convenient stop when passing through town, then you encounter the people behind the counter and realize the problem. My suggestion is to go Smitty's Market down the street.

Not great! food good, well what was leftover anyways. Got there 1 1/2hours before closing on Fathers day (4:30pm). Lady at meat counter very rude about the fact she only had pork ribs and saugage left Only. We only drove over an hour to be told rudely. Maybe she didn't want to work on father's day or something. But if our questions about food available was such a bother then maybe we should have been told at the door. Both ladies proceeded to explain we should have been here this morning." line out the door". I Guess if you want to eat food of your own choice maybe get here before business hours. Or Krewz should close early Unstead selling just leftovers. Happy Father's day ! For early birds only.

The brisket was so good it melted in my mouth like bacon. I live in Dallas and can assure you I will never be able to go to San Antonio again without making a detour to the Kreuz Market.
