Any idea which frog/toad species this is?  Nocturnal, found on the deck when I left the back light on.

Edit:  found in Apex, North Carolina.  The frog was about 2" long or less.

Google bumped up the brightness.

Eastern Arboreal Tree Frog on my car on Thursday morning.  We removed him and returned him to his tree before I left for work.

An Eastern Box Turtle (Terrapene carolina carolina) in the side yard at our house outside Apex. This little guy is going to need to be rehomed before they rip up the land for a housing development.

The Eastern Box Turtle is listed as "Vulnerable" species, one step above "Endangered."

At the dealer, getting an oil-change . . . Go Tour exercise #40 solution:

package main

import (
    "code.google.com/p/go-tour/wc"
    "strings"
)

func WordCount(s string) map[string]int {
    words := strings.Fields(s)
    counts := map[string]int {}

    for _, word := range words  {
        wordCount, exists := counts[word]
        if !exists {
            wordCount = 0
        }
        wordCount++
        counts[word] = wordCount
    }
    return counts
}

func main() {
    wc.Test(WordCount)
}

I should have moved my 401k investments into bonds last week, before the election.  Better a little late than January.

More on the start-up bubble, this time from Scripting News. What surprised me, not living in Silicon Valley nor being directly exposed to hiring devs or funding companies, was that we're already in the bubble.

(See also my earlier post on the bubble and the JOBS act at https://plus.google.com/117748463937338133259/posts/YAsxbD9x8ib ).

Introduction
I've been interested in social, scalable software development since college, from MUDs and MMOs to the intersection of batch processing and massive availability to innovative ways to allow people to search and share conversations.  I'm a professional software developer with Overstock.com, formerly developing EDI systems and now building web applications for communicating with our partners.  I'm a team catalyst:  I foster open communication and bring members together.

I collect information and best practices around the Delightful web application pattern and promote its use where appropriate.
