During the wintertime our dogs' paws take a beating with all the snow, ice, salt on the sidewalk, & overall cold weather. It’s important to protect their paw pads.
BOOTIES: Love them or hate them, booties are a good way to keep your dog’s paws protected during the winter months. They offer warmth, full coverage & are durable. To find your dog’s booties size, measure from the heel to the tip of the toenail.
PAW BALM: Before walking on the snow or ice, rub some paw balm on your dog’s paws. This will minimize the dry skin & the damage salt can cause. Make sure to reapply the balm after returning from walks. Having paw balm on hand is a good way to keep their paws soft & supple during the cold months.
WIPE PAWS AFTER WALK: Make sure to wipe down their paws afterwards. This will minimize any damage salt, ice, or other residue she/he may have stepped on during time outside. Consider washing each paw in a bucket of lukewarm water & then towel drying.
KEEP WALKS SHORT: During the extreme cold, it’s best to keep walks short. Being out in the cold too long is dangerous & can lead to frostbite.

DYK that the Calgary City Council approved amendments to the Responsible Pet Ownership Bylaw to make it possible for individuals to apply for a permit to keep livestock as Emotional Support Animals within the city? Applicants would require a letter from a mental health professional explaining the need for emotional support animal, a $66 fee for a permit issued by the City of Calgary, and a veterinarian willing to care for animal's health needs. #mentalhealth #loveyyc #emotionalsupportanimals #veterinarycare #onehealth

What better excuse to get on your #NewYearsResolution to be more active then walking & playing with your dog & cat! Exercise & mental stimulation are important for us & our pets' emotional & physical well-being. A tired pet is a happy pet, one who is less likely to engage in destructive behaviors. What are your favourite indoor games to play with your pets & what is your favourite Calgary off leash park? #loveyyc #yycpets #pethealth #health #yycveterinarycare
