Runners - What's Working for You?

As I move to doing more paced runs, I'm finding that phone based activity tracking isn't working for me. I'm considering an activity tracker or combined running watch / activity tracker so I can view pace in something like real time (mainly, although the sleep tracking/activity tracking is appealing too).

I already have a cycling Garmin, so I'm considering the Forerunner 35, or one of the vivo... range. What are the running members of the community using beyond their phones? Any downsides?
