Texas Is The Second Best State To Make A Living In
February 24, 2015 By Kirk Austin (Edit)

Texas is the second best state to make a living. That’s according to, which used data from various groups, including the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index. Forbes reports the study examined “average salary, cost of living, employment rate and workplace conditions.” Forbes says: Texas scored second place with a winning combination of state tax, cost of living, and unemployment metrics.” Washington ranked No. 1, while Minnesota came in third. The worst place? Hawaii. Really? Yes. The state ranks worst due to a cost of living that’s 157 percent the national average and a poor work environment score, Forbes says. New York and Mississippi round out the bottom three. – See more at:

Expanding My Blog Interests
February 18, 2015 By Kirk Austin (Edit)

It is time to expand the blog.  In addition to news about real estate some time will be devoted to service providers, recipes and events in the area.

This post focuses on CUSTOM CRITTER SITTERS, LLC

Owner, Yvonne M. Feltman:
I have over 15 years of housesitting & pet sitting experience.  I began housesitting occasionally as a hobby in college and it has grown into a true passion and a rewarding business.  I take great pride in ensuring the security of your property and pets while you are away.  I truly enjoy caring for animals and providing them with a positive experience.  I believe that all animals should be adored and treated well.

Because house sitting & pet sitting is a very personal service, I feel you should know some personal details about me as well:

I have been around animals most of my life beginning with two Norwegian Elkhounds we had when I was a child. I have had couple of cats, fish, a hamster and a sugar glider prior to the present.  I have been around snakes & reptiles quite a bit.  Currently, I have a tiny dog named Jiminey Cricket (a 9 year-old Mini-Miniature Pinscher).  Jiminey Cricket* usually accompanies me during most house sits. If you have questions or concerns please don’t hesitate to inquire!

I was born in Dallas, Texas but I spent most of my life in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I moved here to Austin in 2013 because I love the animal-friendly (and people-friendly) nature of this great city! I have an identical twin sister and 6 younger siblings.  I have a BA Degree in Psychology & English from UNM.  Some of my other interests include running, yoga, skiing, photography, writing, reading, listening to live music, dancing, traveling and cooking.

I have spent a majority of my career in administrative roles supporting high level executives.  For several years I owned a successful pet sitting business in Albuquerque called Abode Attendants, LLC. I have excellent and extensive professional references of which I’d be happy to furnish upon your request.

Our Pet Sitters:
Occasionally during peak travel seasons Custom Critter Sitters LLC will work with independent contractors in order to meet the increased demand.  These individuals are screened and guided to serve you and your pets. Prior to your house sit you will be provided with complete information on and a meeting with the individual who is to provide your pet sit.  With nothing less than excellence and integrity as our goal, we are confident our contractors embody this and more.  If you know your travel dates – book us early!

Serving Those That Have Served
February 15, 2015 By Kirk Austin (Edit)

I was given the opportunity to volunteer at the Military Reception Station during the Austin Marathon.  The organizer for the tent allowed me to be the gate keeper.  So I enjoyed talking with all of the active and veteran marathoners and their families as they came and went from the reception tent.  I was also introduced to Team RWB who has the mission to enrich the lives of America’s veterans by connecting them to their community through physical and social activity. The support and enthusiasm for the organization has earned the validation and endorsement from the following organizations.  My thanks to Conley Sports, Team RWB and Camp Mabry for this opportunity.  For more information on how Kirk Austin Real Estate helps our active, veteran and wounded warriors own a little piece of Texas, visit
